Qualifications

• 5+ years of property accounting, commercial real estate accounting or related accounting experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, AP/AR, journal entries, reconciliations and month-end close.
• Experience with tenant billing, CAM reconciliations and operating expense recoveries preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage property-level accounting and general ledger activity for an assigned commercial real estate portfolio.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor invoices, payments, tenant billing and rent collections.
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Manage month-end close and assist with preparation of property-level financial statements.
• Prepare CAM, operating expense and tax reconciliations for commercial tenants.
• Assist with annual property budgets, forecasts and variance analysis.
• Review property financial activity, identify discrepancies and resolve accounting issues.
• Support financial reporting for ownership, lenders and investors.
• Assist with year-end audits, tax preparation, acquisitions, dispositions and refinancing activity.
• Partner closely with Asset Management on ongoing property accounting and reporting needs.

Our client, a successful and growing privately held commercial real estate investment and development firm, is seeking an experienced Property Accountant to join its Chicago team.

The firm is actively expanding its national portfolio across healthcare and medical office, industrial, retail and other commercial real estate sectors. The Role

The Property Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for an assigned portfolio of commercial real estate properties. You will work closely with Asset Management and leadership and play an important role in maintaining accurate property financials and supporting the continued growth of the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage property-level accounting and general ledger activity for an assigned commercial real estate portfolio
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor invoices, payments, tenant billing and rent collections

What We Are Looking For

• 5+ years of property accounting, commercial real estate accounting or related accounting experience preferred
• Strong hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, AP/AR, journal entries, reconciliations and month-end close
• Experience with tenant billing, CAM reconciliations and operating expense recoveries preferred
• Yardi experience strongly preferred
• AvidXchange or similar AP platform experience is a plus
• Commercial real estate experience strongly preferred; medical office and/or industrial experience is a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate or a related field preferred
