Job summary

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation is seeking a Service Tech Apprentice to participate in a structured hands-on training program to learn the foundational skills of both the Propane Service Technician and/or Delivery Driver roles. This position supports the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and delivery of propane systems and products to residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Under direct supervision, the apprentice will rotate through duties to develop the competencies

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Entry level position, some mechanical knowledge preferred.
• Ability to obtain CDL Class B with Hazmat and tanker endorsements within 6 months of employment.
• DOT Physical required within 60 days.
• General mechanical aptitude (hand tools).
• Basic computer skills.
• Good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of propane tanks, gas lines, regulators, and appliances.
• Shadow licensed service technicians and CDL drivers to learn safety protocols and troubleshooting.
• Participate in ride-alongs and support delivery of propane products using trucks.
• Learn to read gauges and service logs and complete documentation accurately.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in line with regulations.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment at job sites and facilities.
• Attend safety and technical training sessions for CDL licensing and CETP certification.
• Interact with customers professionally to provide information and answer questions.
