Job summary

Foster Fuels, Inc. is hiring a full-time Driver in Rustburg, VA to deliver propane and provide top-notch customer service. You will maintain vehicle readiness, complete required DOT logs, and ensure accurate shipment paperwork.

The role requires a valid Class B license with X, tanker and hazmat endorsements, plus a current DOT medical card. Local travel, overtime in peak season, and strong safety discipline are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must have Class B Driver's License with X endorsement (tanker, hazmat endorsements).
  • Current DOT physical examination card.
  • Clean DMV record and maintained during employment.
  • Moderate computer knowledge.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondences.
  • Ability to graph hours of service driving logs.

Responsibilities

  • Drives truck locally to load, deliver, and unload propane fuel products as required.
  • Apply knowledge of commercial driving and maneuvering in tight loading/unloading areas.
  • Abides by all company, DOT, State and Federal transportation safety regulations.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections and submits a daily vehicle inspection report.
  • Maintains records for compliance with state and federal regulations (logs, fuel purchases, mileage).
  • Ensures shipping documentation is available and delivery tickets are submitted daily.
  • Reports accidents or delays to supervision and handles emergencies promptly.
  • Adheres to schedule and communicates delays or irregularities in pickups/deliveries.
  • Work flexible schedules including overtime during peak heating season.
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service in prior roles.

Salary Range: $22.00 To $28.00 Hourly

SUMMARY

The position supports a broad range of disciplines including delivering propane fuel to customer destinations and providing exceptional customer service. Foster Fuel Drivers are responsible and required to ensure their equipment is properly maintained and all records and reports required for DOT and Corporate compliance are met.

SALARY RANGE
  • $22.00/hr. to $28.00/hr. DOE.
DUTIES
  • Drives truck locally to load, deliver, and unload propane fuel products as required.
  • Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skill in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, or in tight loading/unloading areas.
  • Abides by all company, DOT, State and Federal transportation safety regulations.
  • Conducts pre-trip and post trip inspections of equipment for defects and safe operating conditions before and after trips, submits a daily vehicle inspection report on the condition at the end of each day. and performs basic preventive maintenance to ensure fluid levels and tire pressure are maintained.
  • Maintains records required for compliance with State and Federal regulations and including driver’s logs, records of fuel purchases, mileage records and other records required by Foster Fuels or state and federal regulations.
  • Ensures that all shipping documentation (bills of laden, weight tickets, etc.) required to move with shipments are available for inspection, that appropriate paperwork is provided when delivered, and delivery tickets are turned into dispatch daily.
  • Reports all accidents/incidents involving driver or company equipment immediately after an incident occurs to the Supervisor and promptly reports any delays due to breakdown, weather or traffic conditions, or other emergencies.
  • Report if there is more than a one-hour delay in getting unloaded or loaded, or in the event of irregularities relating to pick up or deliver of fuel.
  • Must be able to work flexible work schedules including overtime in peak heating season.
  • Must have Demonstrated exceptional customer service in a previous work history.
KEY CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
  • Strong customer service and positive attitude.
  • Familiarity with the local area and able to follow GPS directions.
  • Able to work in a dynamic work schedule with varying degrees of business cycles.
KEY CANDIDATE SKILLS
  • High School degree or GED
  • Requires Class “B” Driver’s License with X endorsement (tanker, hazmat endorsements), current DOT physical examination card and clean DMV record to be maintained during the duration of employment.
  • Moderate computer knowledge
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondences.
  • May be required to complete simple calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to graph hours of service driving logs (manual/electronic).

While performing the duties of this job, employees will be required to stand, walk, sit, climb, pull hoses, crawl, crouch, and kneel for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift or pull up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment includes traveling to customer sites via Foster Fuels Propane truck to offload fuel into customers’ tanks. The truck will be parked at assigned Foster Fuels location.
