Insight Global is seeking an experienced Proofpoint Email Security SME to own and escalate complex email-security issues. You will configure, optimize, and troubleshoot Proofpoint in a large enterprise, coordinating with Cyber Fusion Center and other teams to strengthen email defenses.

The role requires hands-on engineering, deep knowledge of mail flow, and strong communications across cybersecurity, infrastructure, and business teams.

We are seeking an experienced Proofpoint Email Security Subject Matter Expert (SME) to serve as the technical owner and primary escalation point for enterprise email security.

This role will be responsible for the configuration, optimization, troubleshooting, and ongoing operation of the Proofpoint email security environment. The ideal candidate is a deeply technical, hands-on engineer who understands not only Proofpoint, but the broader email ecosystem including mail flow, Microsoft 365/Exchange Online, authentication protocols, threat detection, and email-related incident response.

The Proofpoint SME will partner closely with the Cyber Fusion Center, Identity, Infrastructure, Incident Management, and other technology teams to strengthen email security and reduce operational risk.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the organization’s primary Proofpoint technical SME and escalation point for complex email security issues.
• Own the configuration, administration, health, and optimization of the Proofpoint email security platform.
• Troubleshoot complex mail-flow and email-delivery issues across Proofpoint, Microsoft 365/Exchange Online, and related infrastructure.
• Manage and tune email security policies, including anti-phishing, anti-spam, malware, impersonation, spoofing, URL, attachment, and business email compromise protections.
• Investigate sophisticated email threats and support the Cyber Fusion Center during phishing, account compromise, BEC, malware, and other email-related incidents.
• Analyze message headers, SMTP transactions, mail-routing behavior, authentication results, and Proofpoint logs to identify root causes.
• Manage and troubleshoot SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, including authentication failures and legitimate third-party senders.
• Develop and maintain secure email-routing configurations, connectors, allow/block policies, transport rules, and other mail controls.
• Continuously tune Proofpoint controls to improve detection while reducing false positives and unnecessary business disruption.
• Identify recurring email-security issues and implement permanent engineering solutions rather than relying on repeated operational workarounds.
• Support major email initiatives, including Microsoft 365/email migrations, domain changes, mergers and acquisitions, and mail-flow integrations.
• Evaluate new Proofpoint capabilities and recommend improvements to the organization’s email-security architecture.
• Develop automation, reporting, dashboards, and operational processes where appropriate.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, configuration standards, troubleshooting procedures, and runbooks.
• Mentor Cyber Fusion Center analysts and other security engineers on email-security investigations and Proofpoint capabilities.
• Work directly with Proofpoint support and other vendors to resolve complex platform issues.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in email security, security engineering, messaging engineering, or a related cybersecurity discipline.
• Significant hands-on experience administering and engineering Proofpoint enterprise email-security solutions.
• Strong understanding of SMTP, DNS, MX records, mail routing, message headers, and enterprise email architecture.
• Strong knowledge of SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online in large enterprise environments.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex email-delivery and mail-flow issues across multiple systems.
• Experience investigating phishing, business email compromise, spoofing, malicious attachments, credential phishing, and other email-based threats.
• Strong understanding of email threat-detection and prevention techniques.
• Ability to independently lead complex technical troubleshooting and drive issues through root-cause resolution.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work across cybersecurity, infrastructure, messaging, and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting email security within a large, highly regulated enterprise or financial-services environment.
• Experience with Proofpoint Targeted Attack Protection (TAP), Threat Response/Auto-Pull, Email Protection, URL Defense, Attachment Defense, or related Proofpoint capabilities.
• Experience supporting large-scale Microsoft 365 or email migrations.
• Experience integrating Proofpoint with SIEM/SOAR platforms.
• Scripting or automation experience using PowerShell, Python, APIs, or similar technologies.
• Experience developing email-security metrics, monitoring, alerting, and executive reporting.

They will reduce the amount of time multiple teams spend reacting to email-related issues, improve the security and reliability of the email environment, proactively identify weaknesses before they become incidents, and provide dedicated technical ownership of Proofpoint and the broader email-security ecosystem.
