Job summary

City of South Salt Lake is seeking Afterschool Specialists to work directly with youth in a safe, supervised afterschool program and to act as a positive mentor and role model. The role involves delivering engaging activities, managing groups, and supporting grant objectives.

You will plan developmentally appropriate activities, track attendance, and assist with reporting. The position requires punctuality for shifts and involvement in meals and city events.

Responsibilities

• Develop hands-on and project-based lesson plans in areas such as common core, character development, STEAM, fitness, and recreation
• Deliver 1-2 evidence-based, prevention specific, lessons per week
• Lead and supervise groups of youth and address behavior issues as they arise
• Assist Assistant Coordinator in reporting requirements
• Collect attendance and activity participation of youth
• Communicate successes and challenges regarding youth to direct supervisors
• Conduct pre- and post-surveys according to grant requirements
• Arrive on time for scheduled shifts and required staff meetings, trainings, and events
• Serve snacks and dinner, oversee meal times (may require Food Handler's Permit)
• Maintain daily cleanliness of all program areas
• Work at city-sponsored events 1-2 times per month (Friday or Saturday)

Additional Responsibilities

• Arrive on time for scheduled shifts and all required staff meetings, trainings, and events
• Serve snacks and dinner, as well as oversee meal times (may need Food Handler's Permit)
• Maintain daily cleanliness of all program areas (office, classrooms, gym, kitchen, etc ...)
• Work at city-sponsored events, typically held 1-2 times per month on a Friday evening or Saturday morning
