Job summary

H2M architects + engineers is seeking a Project Water/Wastewater Engineer to advance your design skills from conception through construction. You will work on water treatment systems, distribution networks, and wastewater facilities, guiding projects with senior engineers and mentoring junior staff.

The role emphasizes design calculations, field investigations, construction administration, and coordination with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver reliable infrastructure and compliant systems.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of professional work experience in water/wastewater design
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Chemical, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering with hydraulic/environment coursework preferred
  • EIT or P.E. licensure preferred
  • Experience with GIS is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and self-motivation

Responsibilities

  • Lead design through construction with emphasis on water and wastewater treatment
  • Prepare reports, plans, and specifications with senior staff
  • Coordinate with subconsultants and manage project budgets and schedules
  • Conduct field investigations and inspections to ensure conformance with plans
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff
  • Interface with clients and construction managers and assist with proposals

Job description

With over 90 years of experience in water and wastewater engineering, H2Ms water and wastewater team designs and implements drinking water treatment systems, distribution networks, wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and collection systems. As a Project Water/Wastewater Engineer at H2M architects + engineers, you have the opportunity to grow your engineering skills under the guidance of our team of successful, licensed professional engineers

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering work in various engineering fields with an emphasis on water and wastewater treatment process through design to construction.
  • Lead engineering evaluations, execute design calculations, and prepare reports, plans, and specifications with support of senior level engineering staff.
  • Conduct construction administration and on-site resident support activities, including construction phase management activities, coordination of shop drawing reviews and RFI responses, and lead the development of construction change orders.
  • Perform detailed engineering calculations and analysis.
  • Lead administrative and project management related tasks for various engineering design projects, including management of subconsultants.
  • Lead development of construction documents (plans and specifications).
  • Manage project budgets and delivery schedules.
  • Coordinate with other engineering and architecture departments.
  • Conduct field investigations and inspections.
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspection and testing.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Interface with clients and construction managers.
  • Assist with business development, proposal writing, and budgeting.
Education & Qualifications
  • 5 to 10 years of professional work experience in the design and/or design services of water/wastewater.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Civil, Chemical, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline with hydraulic and/or environmental coursework preferred.
  • EIT/P.E. preferred
  • Experience with GIS a plus.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and AutoCAD. Knowledge with Civil 3D, Revit and BIM a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn.
  • The salary range is $85,000 to $120,000 annually.
