Pacific Life is seeking a Project Technical Lead for Workflow Automation & Integration to drive automation initiatives across the Workforce Benefits division. You will partner with stakeholders and engineers to design scalable, secure solutions that connect APIs, integrations, and AI-enabled capabilities.

The role requires strong business analysis and technical leadership to transform requirements into durable architectures and measurable outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Analytics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in technical project leadership or software delivery.
  • Experience with MuleSoft, Appian, REST APIs, and integration architectures.
  • Strong understanding of workflow management and system integration concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead workflow automation and integration projects across Workforce Benefits.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications and diagrams.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, and product owners across agile teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance while ensuring architectural standards.

It’s a career where you have the support, balance, and resources to make a positive impact on the future – including your own.The Project Technical Lead, Workflow Automation & Integration partners with business stakeholders, architects, product owners, and engineering teams to deliver workflow automation, integration, and digital transformation solutions across the Workforce Benefits Division.This individual contributor role serves as the technical lead for complex projects, providing leadership throughout the solution lifecycle from requirements gathering and solution design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support. The role is responsible for identifying opportunities to automate business processes, improve operational efficiency, and enable a highly connected technology ecosystem through workflow orchestration, APIs, integrations, and AI-enabled capabilities.This role collaborates across all layers of the technology stack, including user interfaces, application services, databases, APIs, integrations, and supporting infrastructure. The ideal candidate combines strong business analysis skills with technical expertise to translate business objectives into scalable and secure technology solutions that drive measurable business outcomes.This role will be located in one of our offices either in Newport Beach, CA, Charlotte, NC or Omaha, NE.How you will help move us forwardLead workflow automation, integration, and digital transformation projects supporting Workforce Benefits business capabilities.Partner with business stakeholders to analyze current and future business processes and identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve customer and operational outcomes.Serve as the technical lead for initiatives involving workflow management, APIs, system integrations, automation platforms, and AI-enabled solutions.Translate business requirements into technical specifications, process flows, workflow diagrams, API requirements, and data mapping documentation.Collaborate with solution architects, Full-Stack Developers, and enterprise technology teams to design scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system design, development support, testing, deployment, and production support.Develop and maintain technical documentation, including process flows, sequence diagrams, system specifications, API documentation, source-to-target mappings, operational procedures, and support documentation.Partner with Product Owners and Scrum Masters within a Scaled Agile environment to refine backlogs, define acceptance criteria, and establish measurable outcomes.Support Quality Assurance activities by defining business scenarios, testing requirements, and end-to-end validation criteria.Provide technical leadership and guidance across project teams while influencing solution decisions and ensuring alignment with architecture and development standards.Serve as an escalation point for workflow, integration, and production support issues and lead root cause analysis efforts.Evaluate emerging technologies, automation tools, and AI solutions to improve business processes and delivery effectiveness.Establish and measure KPIs and business outcomes related to automation, operational efficiency, quality, and customer experience.The experience you will bringBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Analytics, or a related field.8+ years of experience in technical project leadership, workflow automation, integration, or software delivery.Experience leading cross-functional technology initiatives as an individual contributor.Experience gathering, analyzing, and documenting business, functional, and technical requirements.Experience with MuleSoft, Appian, REST APIs, file-based integrations, microservices, and event-driven solutions.Strong understanding of workflow management, process automation, business process analysis, and system integration concepts.Experience working across multiple layers of the technology stack, including APIs, application services, databases, and integration platforms.Experience supporting Agile or Scaled Agile teams and delivery methodologies.Strong stakeholder management, communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.Ability to drive initiatives forward in ambiguous environments while balancing business and technical priorities.What will make you stand outExperience with Workflow Benefits business capabilities including enrollment, underwriting, claims, and policy administration.Experience with workflow orchestration and business process automation platforms.3+ years of experience supporting API-led integrations and modern integration architectures.Knowledge of EIS policy administration systems.Experience working within a Full-Stack Development organization supporting end-to-end software delivery.Experience leveraging AI technologies to improve operational efficiency and decision-making.Experience defining and measuring business outcomes through KPIs, operational metrics, and automation goals.You can be who you are.We are committed to a culture of diversity and inclusion that embraces the authenticity of all employees, partners and communities. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location.
