Job summary

Dewberry is seeking a Project Surveyor in Charlotte, NC to lead surveying and mapping services. The role involves boundary, ALTA, topographic, platting, right‑of‑way, transmission, and construction surveys using advanced equipment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; degree in land surveying is a plus.
  • Active North Carolina land surveying license or ability to obtain one.
  • Minimum five years of survey experience and project management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with clients and work with staff.
  • Proficient CAD standards and surveying software (AutoCAD, Carlson Civil, Survey Suite).
  • Experience with GPS/GNSS, RTK/VRS, and post-processing; ALTA survey experience is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Assist survey staff with all aspects of survey projects.
  • Assist with business development and contract preparation.
  • Coordinate daily workload with the Survey Department manager and staff.
  • Follow policies to ensure accurate and efficient deliverables.
  • QA/QC plats prior to manager review.
  • Assist with budgets, proposals, marketing and monthly invoicing.

Job description

Dewberry is currently seeking an experienced Project Surveyor to manage and expand Surveying and related Mapping Services within Dewberry's Charlotte, NC offices. The candidate must be responsible, highly motivated, and detail‑oriented, able to work in a fast‑paced environment, manage multiple projects, coordinate daily with the Survey Manager and key office staff, prepare proposals, and lead business development while supervising the surveying staff. The role involves executing boundary, ALTA, topographic, platting, right‑of‑way acquisition, transmission line, transportation, and construction surveys using the latest equipment and surveying technology.

Responsibilities
  • Assist survey staff with all aspects of a survey project.
  • Assist with business development and preparation of contracts.
  • Coordinate with Survey Department manager, office staff & field staff on daily workload, schedules and needs.
  • Follow policy & procedures to ensure all deliverables are done accurately and efficiently.
  • QA/QC plats prior to Manager review.
  • Assist with preparation of budgets/proposals, marketing/business development and monthly invoicing.
  • Work independently and in group environments.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Must have a High School Diploma; degree in Land Surveying a plus.
  • Active Land Surveying license required for North Carolina or ability to obtain.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of survey experience and project management.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to work and interact with clients.
  • Must be proficient with all aspects of computing, drafting, and CAD standards.
  • Must be proficient with AutoCAD, Carlson Civil, Survey Suite; Microstation/GeoPak is a plus.
  • Must have a diverse survey experience including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, route surveys, construction stakeout, and transportation surveys.
  • Must be proficient with GPS/GNS systems and use of RTK/VRS and post‑processing of survey data (Static – Network Least Squares Reduction).
  • Must have the ability to perform deed research, process field data collector files; resolve boundaries and prepare CAD files, metes and bounds descriptions, and final plats.
  • Must have the ability to perform all aspects of an ALTA Survey.
  • Must be dependable, conscientious, self‑motivated and driven.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
  • Must be willing and able to do short‑term travel.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.
  • Must pass a mandatory drug test.
