Job summary

The State of Indiana, via the Indot Fort Wayne District, is seeking a skilled Construction Supervisor to oversee field operations and ensure safety, compliance, and timely project delivery. You will supervise construction technicians and coordinate testing, documentation, and reporting to maintain project quality.

A strong background in construction principles, plan interpretation, and leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of INDOT construction principles and CTHTP preferred.
• Equivalent post-secondary education in construction may substitute CTHTP.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience is highly preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and CDL or obtain one within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Ensures INDOT and contractor employees are safely performing work.
• Supervises assigned INDOT construction technicians.
• Ensures projects follow plans, specs, and contract requirements on time and budget.
• Performs sampling and testing of construction materials or coordinates work of technicians.
• Provides clarifications to contractors and recommends revisions to meet scope.
• Reviews drawings from contractors, suppliers, and fabricators.
• Prepares inspection and progress reports and other construction records.
• Reviews and approves daily field reports by technicians.
• Prepares project-specific responses to injuries for the District Communications Director.
• Meets with property and business owners to resolve access, drainage, and other issues.

This position is with INDOT's Fort Wayne District.

The salary for this position traditionally starts at$53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Ensures that both INDOT and contractor employees are safely performing work.
• Supervises assigned INDOT construction technicians.
• Ensures projects are completed following plans, specifications, and contract requirements as well as on time and budget.
• Performs sampling and testing of construction materials or coordinates work of assigned technicians.
• Provides clarifications as requested by contractors and recommends revisions as needed to meet the project's scope.
• Reviews working and shop drawing provided by contractors, suppliers, and fabricators.
• Prepares inspection reports, progress reports, and other construction records.
• Reviews and approve daily field reports prepared by assigned technicians.
• Prepares project-specific responses to injuries from local public officials, news organizations, and other interested parties for the District Communications Director.
• Meets with property and business owners in the project area to resolve access, drainage, and other issues that may arise during construction.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

What You'll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

• Advanced knowledge of INDOT Construction principles as demonstrated through successful completion of the Construction and Testing Highway Technician Program (CTHTP) is strongly preferred.
• Equivalent post-secondary education/training in a Construction or Construction Management related field along with substantial professional experience may substitute for the CTHTP.
• Demonstrated previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role highly preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
  Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one with the first 90 days of employment.
  Required to submit to, and pass, a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Broad knowledge in construction material sampling and testing standards: and FHWA and INDOT test procedures of materials.
• Ability to read and interpret highway and bridge plans and to identify errors and omissions.
• Basic computer skills with Microsoft Offices software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access).
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, the public, contractors, consultants, and other Department sections both orally and in writing.

A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 4+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
