Job Description

PURPOSE

The Project Start Up and Commissioning Technician will ensure the quality start-up and commissioning of new mechanical equipment on projects, including but not limited to pumps, air handlers, boilers, chillers, split systems, and refrigerant systems. Responsibilities include installing and maintaining piping, welding, soldering, refrigeration equipment, boilers, pumps, and brazing. The technician will also maintain and grow the “Customer for Life” concept for both existing and new customers. Performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be constructed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Read and understand electrical wiring diagrams
  • Complete necessary paperwork
  • Work with refrigerant, electricity, chemicals, and natural gas
  • Operate required equipment for tasks, including climbing ladders and stairs
  • Create and maintain documentation
  • Accurately report daily time and equipment usage

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5 years of experience through Local 33 Apprenticeship Program or Vocational Schooling
  • Ability to read and understand electrical wiring diagrams
  • Good electrical troubleshooting skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of various mechanical systems and piping
  • Basic computer skills

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Universal refrigerant license
  • State licenses: HVAC, refrigeration, hydronic, plumbing, universal CFC license, 30-hour OSHA, 10-hour OSHA, safety training

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Good hygiene, clean uniform, boots, and safety gear
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Precautionary and excellent driving skills
  • Excellent documentation abilities
  • Good hand dexterity
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to work 8-hour shifts, be on call, and work after hours, nights, weekends, and holidays

EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS

  • Clothing: uniform shirts, jeans, coats, gloves, hats
  • PPE: safety glasses, vests, hard hats, ear plugs, steel toe boots, safety harness, face shield
  • Hand and power tools, drills, saws, hand torch, welding torch, hammer drill, chain falls, recovery machines, vacuum pumps
  • Refrigerant tanks, nitrogen, CO2, AC compressors, electric motors
