Job Description

The Project Scheduler plays a key role in developing, maintaining, and analyzing detailed construction schedules for large industrial projects. This position ensures that all work activities, resources, and costs are accurately planned and tracked, providing clear visibility into project performance and supporting informed decision-making. The scheduler collaborates closely with project leadership, field teams, subcontractors, and vendors to integrate schedules, monitor progress, and proactively address delays or changes while upholding strong safety and integrity standards.

Responsibilities
  • Review and develop comprehensive project schedules based on plans and specifications, incorporating budgeted dollars, quantities, labor resources, and integrating subcontractor and vendor schedules for services, equipment, and materials.
  • Continuously update and revise the project schedule to reflect actual progress, delays, and other impacts, including actual start and finish dates, remaining durations, quantities installed, actual labor hours, and associated costs.
  • Adjust schedules to account for drawing changes, design revisions, and delivery updates to maintain an accurate and current project plan.
  • Develop and maintain a robust project cost code framework and a work breakdown structure (WPS) that supports a cost- and resource-loaded schedule.
  • Create and regularly issue detailed management reports, including cash flow projections, hourly shutdown and outage schedules, weekly quantity reports, and performance metrics such as SPI, CPI, EV, and manpower reports.
  • Track field progress systematically and ensure that schedule data aligns with on-site activities and production quantities.
  • Review contractor and subcontractor programs for compliance with contract documents and scheduling requirements, and identify any deviations or risks.
  • Advise the Superintendent and Project Manager on subcontractor and vendor performance, schedule adherence, and potential impacts to critical path activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional project teams, including engineering, construction management, and project controls, to ensure schedule accuracy and alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Support project controls efforts by providing resource-loaded schedules and data necessary for performance measurement and forecasting.
  • Participate in meetings with managers, co-workers, subcontractors, and craft employees to communicate schedule status, upcoming work, and changes in a clear and professional manner.
  • Apply strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to identify scheduling issues, evaluate options, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Maintain high standards of safety and integrity in all scheduling practices and support adherence to industry and safety standards.
  • Manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, ensuring schedule updates, reports, and analyses are completed with urgency, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of four (4) years of project scheduling experience in construction, preferably within the heavy industrial sector.
  • Industrial construction experience with exposure to large-scale or complex projects.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling software (must have), including experience with resource-loaded schedules.
  • Demonstrated experience in project controls and project scheduling, including developing and maintaining detailed construction schedules.
  • Proven ability to track field progress, generate SPI, CPI, EV, and manpower reports, and review contractor schedules for contract compliance.
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or another relevant discipline.
  • Strong scheduling software skills, with emphasis on Primavera P6.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with managers, co-workers, subcontractors, and construction craft employees.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Understanding and appreciation of industry standards and safety practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and project management software such as Procore, Power BI, or similar tools.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Comfort working in a family-oriented, safety-focused culture that emphasizes long-term career stability and integrity.
  • Ability to multi-task with a strong sense of urgency while maintaining accuracy in schedule updates and reporting.
