The Safety Manager is responsible for planning and managing the general health and safety of JMS project sites to reduce accidents, occupational injuries and exposure to health hazards. This role includes assisting in the design and delivery of safety related policies and training programs, including new hire orientation, emergency preparedness and the use of personal protective equipment. The Safety Manager is also responsible for monitoring compliance with safety policies, investigating and reporting on job site accidents and injuries and implementing lessons learned to prevent recurrences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a leader of job site safety, demonstrating JMS beliefs and commitment to safety, functioning as a team player and fostering trust and communication
- Partner with operations leaders to develop, implement and improve effective site safety plans, policies and procedures
- Perform job site safety inspections, maintain files, and investigation related to safety and health for JMS Energy
- Implement S.L.A.M. methodology. Stop Look Assess Manage
- Lead incident investigations and complete comprehensive reports of findings, including corrective actions
- Design and conduct job site orientation and CORE training for new employees
- Assist in developing, implementing and improving health and safety programs
- Train and assist employees in identifying safety hazards and implementing corrective measures
- Prepare and deliver safety toolbox talks and safety topic training for all JMS employees
- Attend and participate in safety meetings and plan of day (POD) meetings
- Establish and maintain relationships and open communication between JMS and clients and vendors regarding safety matters
- Report all incidents, near misses, safety infractions, policy violation and concerns to management in a timely manner
- Maintain site first aid and emergency response supplies
- Transport injured employees for treatment and testing when needed
- Prepare, implement and enforce Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) and Activities Hazard Analysis (AHAs)
- Conduct and document job site safety observations
- Understand and ensure compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations, OSHA/MSHA standards and relevant environmental regulations
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in health and safety, risk management or construction preferred.
- OSHA 30 – Required
- OSHA 500 - Preferred
- 3 to 5 years construction safety management experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong commitment to safety and strict adherence to safety protocols
- Professional demeanor, including the ability to communicate with and represent JMS to clients and vendors
- OSHA training and Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or other Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) certification preferred
- Understanding of OSHA regulations and hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record (clear MVR) to be able to operate a company vehicle
- Ability to travel to job sites across North America as required, up to 80% of the time
- Sound judgement and independent decision-making skills
- Physical ability to pass tower climbing fit for duty physical, including general ability to climb ladder systems, carrying tools and equipment and meet OSHA weight requirements of 250-300 pounds (as determined by weight limits for ladders and rigging harnesses).
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with diverse project teams.
- This is a site-based role and includes work performed at heights (300 feet), confined spaces and in all weather conditions and may include exposure to dust, fumes and loud noises.
- On-site work requires adherence to safety regulations and Company policies.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing ladders, kneeling, and standing or walking 8-10 hours per day.
- Travel to various JMS jobsite locations may be required with limited notice
