Job summary

Scott Bridge Company, Inc. is seeking a Project Safety Manager to lead safety initiatives across active construction sites in Alabama.

You will develop project-specific safety plans, conduct inspections, and drive corrective actions to protect workers on heavy civil, bridge, marine, and roadway projects. The role requires OSHA knowledge, strong communication, and the ability to train teams and coordinate with project management and regulators.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of construction safety experience preferred, with heavy civil, bridge, marine, roadway, or DOT project experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and common heavy civil hazards, including fall protection, excavation, cranes and rigging, confined space, traffic control, and work over water.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required or ability to obtain within an agreed-upon timeframe; OSHA 500, CHST, STSC, or similar safety credential preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and promote a strong safety culture across jobsite operations by coaching supervisors, foremen, craft employees, and subcontractors on safe work practices.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific safety plans, procedures, and job hazard analyses for heavy civil, bridge, marine, roadway, and related construction activities.
  • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and audits to identify hazards, document findings, communicate corrective actions, and follow up to verify completion.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, DOT project requirements, owner specifications, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, task-specific training, and refresher training for employees and subcontractors.
  • Participate in pre-activity planning for high-risk work including cranes and rigging, pile driving, excavation, work over water, confined spaces, fall protection, traffic control, and heavy equipment operations.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; identify root causes; prepare reports; and support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, including inspection reports, training records, incident reports, corrective action logs, permits, and other required project safety records.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, owners, inspectors, and regulatory representatives on safety-related matters.
  • Support emergency response planning, including evacuation procedures, rescue planning, first-aid coordination, severe weather response, and jobsite emergency drills.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and access active construction areas, including uneven terrain, ladders, barges, work platforms, and elevated work areas as required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to and between multiple project sites as required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb ladders and stairs, and traverse uneven jobsite terrain for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to work at heights, on scaffolding, and on barges or work platforms while wearing required fall protection and personal protective equipment.
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to recognize hazards, warning signals, and jobsite communications.
  • Ability to tolerate prolonged exposure to outdoor heat, cold, and other adverse weather conditions typical of an active construction site.
