Job summary

The Project Safety Director will oversee Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) for a major construction project in Lancaster, PA, leading a team of 4-10 safety professionals and partnering with senior leadership and client stakeholders to drive safety strategy.

This is a high-risk megaproject valued near $1 billion. The role requires 13+ years of construction safety leadership, CHST, OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid, and strong budgeting and people management. On-site, full-time with demanding hours.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, or related field, OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Minimum 13+ years of construction safety experience
  • CHST certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification
  • Previous management experience directing safety personnel and project resources
  • Extensive incident investigation experience
  • Strong budgeting, planning, delegation, and leadership skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS software applications

Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and enforce Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) policies and programs
  • Oversee and mentor a team of 4-10 onsite safety professionals
  • Establish project-wide safety goals and strategic initiatives
  • Partner with project executives and senior leadership to drive safety performance
  • Serve as the primary safety liaison between project leadership and client representatives
  • Lead complex incident investigations and corrective action implementation
  • Coordinate project safety resources, staffing, budgets, and performance objectives
  • Review and improve project safety processes and procedures
  • Conduct leadership-level audits, assessments, and field observations
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to achieve best-in-class safety culture
  • Maintain a consistent presence in both field operations and project offices
  • Coach and develop safety team members to maximize project effectiveness

Project Safety Director
  • Location: Lancaster, PA
  • Start Date: ASAP

Compensation & Schedule
  • Salary: $150,000-$175,000 annually
  • Relocation Assistance: Available for qualified candidates (case-by-case basis)
  • Annual Bonus: Performance-based bonus incentive plan

  • Schedule: 40+ Hours/Week
  • Additional Schedule Details: Hours will vary based on project demands. Some projects may require 58+ hour work weeks. This role is dedicated full-time to a single project.

This individual will partner closely with senior project leadership, client stakeholders, and field operations teams to drive safety strategy, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, or related field, OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Minimum 13+ years of construction safety experience
  • CHST certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Safety Director or Regional Safety Leadership experience
  • Experience overseeing large-scale commercial, industrial, healthcare, manufacturing, mission critical, or megaproject construction efforts
  • Experience leading safety teams on projects exceeding $500M in value
  • ASP, CSP, STS-C, or additional BCSP credentials
  • Military leadership background
  • Previous experience as a Superintendent or Project Manager with strong safety leadership experience
