This Project Safety Director opportunity will lead health, safety, and environmental initiatives for major data center construction projects, serving as a trusted advisor to project leadership and field teams. You will have the opportunity to influence safety strategy, develop high-performing teams, and advance standards across a dynamic regional operation.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the regional HSE champion, providing technical expertise and guidance on industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Monitor regulatory and industry developments and develop compliance strategies for assigned construction operations.
- Appoint and oversee HSE Managers supporting projects, including conducting annual performance evaluations for jobsite supervisors and managers.
- Support subcontractor prequalification, safety expectations, and ongoing performance management.
- Conduct worksite visits, quarterly project audits, and SPATs to identify deficiencies and implement effective corrective measures.
- Lead incident investigation processes, hazard recognition activities, and the development of regional control measures.
- Provide consistent safety leadership to HSE staff and project management, maintaining a strong presence on active project sites.
- Oversee new hire orientations, safety training, weekly reporting, HSE records, and communication of compliance concerns to senior leadership.
Must-Have Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of CHST certification required.
- At least 10 years of safety experience, primarily supporting major construction projects.
- Ability to lead a large team of safety professionals.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction safety standards, hazard recognition, and injury management.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, and prioritization skills to internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience leading safety audits, regulatory compliance programs, incident investigations, and workforce training.
- Ability to travel to project sites and work in active construction environments, including standing, walking, and climbing stairs or ladders.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- ASP, SMS, or CSP certification or similar certification required.
- Experience supporting data center construction or other highly complex, mission-critical facilities.
- Additional expertise in safety management systems, compliance strategy, and regional HSE program development.
- Experience managing HSE Managers and partnering with senior project and business leadership.
- Background overseeing subcontractor safety performance and prequalification programs.
- Experience delivering management orientations and developing safety training programs.
