Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs is offering a Mechanical Engineering Intern/Co-op in Burns Harbor, IN. The role supports maintenance, design, and process improvements under supervision from experienced engineers and plant leaders.

Responsibilities include predictive and preventive maintenance, equipment modification, and cost-conscious project participation to support operations. Internal candidates may advance toward future full-time opportunities.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related technical degree.
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by summer 2027.

Responsibilities

• Recommend and/or perform predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance of equipment.
• Research, design, evaluate, install, modernize, redesign, operate, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment.
• Resolve equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown action.
• Participate in planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance/engineering projects.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and reports.
• Analyze current operating performance and SOPs and make improvement recommendations.
• Other projects as needed to support the business.
