Job summary

Michael Baker International in San Diego seeks a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer to lead hydraulic modeling, design calculations, and project development for public and private sector water projects.

You will mentor staff, manage budgets, prepare technical reports and drawings, and engage clients to pursue new opportunities in a dynamic water resources practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering with environmental/water resources emphasis.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in design and calculations for pipelines, pump stations, wastewater, and reservoirs.
  • P.E. registration in California; other states a plus.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling of water, sewer, and stormwater systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support water/wastewater projects in planning, design development, calculations, and presentations.
  • Lead technical leadership and mentor staff; provide project development and budgeting input.
  • Prepare and review technical memoranda, drawings, specs, and contract docs.
  • Engage in business development, client interaction, and pursuit strategy.
  • Interact with cross-functional teams and industry organizations.

Job description

  • Support public and private sector water/wastewater clients in San Diego with challenging projects.
  • Complete technically sound and financially profitable projects.
  • Work on water-related projects including water and sewer master plans, hydraulic modeling, pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, wells, lift stations, and treatment facility designs.
  • Participate in planning, design development, calculations, presentations, and overall project development.
  • Interact with clients and position the company for upcoming projects.
  • Lead business development activities, including networking groups, proposal preparation, pursuit strategy, and fee proposal development.
  • Participate in industry organizations such as ASCE (Pipeline), APWA, and WateReuse.
  • Participate in the water/wastewater group and collaborate with office and regional teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor staff.
  • Perform project management duties including invoicing and project budgeting.
  • Prepare and oversee design calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Lead technical evaluations supporting water and wastewater planning and design.
  • Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Assist proposal efforts during procurement of key projects.
  • Communicate and coordinate with project team members across disciplines, including cost estimators, GIS, designers, and engineers.
Requirements
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering with an emphasis on environmental and/or water resources engineering, or related engineering field. Advanced technical and management education preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in performing design and calculations supporting pipelines, pump stations, wastewater treatment, and reservoirs.
  • Highly motivated self-starter, versatile and interested in working on a variety of projects supporting the Water/ Wastewater Field.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in California. Additional states and technical registrations are a plus.
  • Demonstrated Experience preparing Hydraulic Modeling of water, sewer, and stormwater systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel, and PowerPoint.
