Job summary

John H Carter Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced outage planner to lead planning, scheduling, and execution of industrial outages across our territory.

Ideal candidates will have 6+ years of relevant experience in industrial plant operations and maintenance, with strong leadership skills and proficiency in SAP, Maximo, Primavera P6, and MS Project. Travel for extended outages is required.

Qualifications

• Outage planning and scheduling experience.
• Knowledge of startup/shutdown sequences.
• Technical understanding of process control equipment and its applications (valves, actuators, instrumentation).
• Ability to read and interpret Electrical Schematics and P&IDs.
• Proficiency with Office365 apps: Excel, Teams, and OneDrive.
• Experience with SAP, Maximo, Primavera P6 or MS Project.

Responsibilities

• Manage execution of outage scope including budget, schedule, resources, and status updates.
• Communicate technical information, concepts, and ideas verbally and in writing.
• Perform pre-outage risk assessments and field observations.
• Maintain milestones per project plan and drive continuous improvement.
• Travel for outages and be prepared for extended schedules as needed.

Job description

• This job is demanding in terms of knowledge, skills, commitment, and all other job-related qualifications. The candidate must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently at various locations throughout our territory.
• Manage execution of outage scope including budget, schedule, resources, and status updates.
• Communicate technical information, concepts, and ideas verbally and in writing.
• Assess conditions and make calculated decisions under pressure and time constraints
• Perform field observations of personnel to reinforce standards and expectations and identify gaps in performance.
• Perform pre-outage walkdowns and risk assessments
• Ensure milestones are met as defined in the project plan
• Maintain a continuous improvement mindset; participate in pre-outage challenge meetings and post-outage critiques
• Assume responsibility for related duties as required or special projects as assigned
• Available to travel out of town for multiple weeks in a row, and occasionally work 12-hr shifts for up to 13 days in a row.
• Follow John H. Carter Co., Inc. policies, procedures and methodologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and abilities required

Experience

Required

2 years:

Minimum. 2 years’ experience in a leadership role.

6 years:

Minimum 6 years’ commercial or military work experience related to industrial plant operations and maintenance. Examples: Maintenance planner/scheduler/coordinator, Operator, E&I Technician, etc.
