Job summary

Kimmel & Associates seeks an experienced Project Manager - Underground Water Utilities to support municipal and industrial water and wastewater construction projects.

You will coordinate with project managers, superintendents, engineers, owners, and field teams to ensure safety, schedule adherence, and budget compliance throughout planning, procurement, scheduling, cost control, and closeout.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CM, CE, ME, or related field preferred; equivalent construction experience may be considered.
• Experience as PM, Project Engineer, Assistant PM, Field Engineer, Estimator, or similar.
• Water/wastewater, heavy civil, or underground utility construction experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documents.
• Knowledge of scheduling, procurement, cost controls, and project documentation.
• Experience with RFIs, submittals, change orders, material takeoffs, and coordination.

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager - Underground Water Utilities to support the successful execution of municipal and industrial water and wastewater construction projects.

The Project Manager will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, owners, and other stakeholders to coordinate project activities and ensure work is delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

This role will have responsibility across project planning, procurement, scheduling, cost control, submittals, RFIs, change orders, quantity tracking, billing, documentation, and overall project coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate water and wastewater construction projects from startup through closeout
• Review plans, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and technical documents
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, owners, inspectors, and field personnel
• Develop and maintain project schedules and monitor progress against key milestones
• Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and project correspondence
• Track project quantities, labor, equipment, materials, subcontractor costs, and overall project performance
• Assist with cost forecasting, budget tracking, cost-to-complete reviews, and monthly billing
• Review invoices, subcontractor billings, purchase orders, and material tickets for accuracy
• Coordinate procurement and delivery of pipe, valves, pumps, equipment, concrete, fittings, and other materials
• Perform material takeoffs and support purchasing activities
• Identify conflicts or construction issues in drawings and specifications before they affect field operations
• Work closely with Superintendents and field teams to coordinate office and field activities
• Support change-order preparation, additional-work documentation, subcontractor management, and project closeout
• Maintain accurate project files, meeting documentation, and project records
• Ensure project activities meet company safety requirements and applicable standards
• Support testing, startup, commissioning, and final project closeout as required

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent construction experience may be considered
• Previous experience as a Project Manager, Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Field Engineer, Estimator, or similar construction professional
• Water/wastewater, heavy civil, or underground utility construction experience strongly preferred
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documents
• Understanding of construction scheduling, procurement, cost controls, and project documentation
• Experience with RFIs, submittals, change orders, material takeoffs, and project coordination
• Experience with HCSS, Bluebeam, and construction project management software preferred
• Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while working effectively with both field and office personnel
• Strong understanding of field construction operations and project financial performance
• Willingness and ability to travel to active project locations as required
