Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems for Canonical's Devices business. This role involves coordinating and completing large, complex customer-facing projects, overseeing all aspects of delivery, and acting as the main liaison between engineering teams and customers.

You will manage projects involving delivery of Ubuntu images on devices such as robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. This high-profile position requires building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and other departments.

Location: This role is remote within the AMERICAs region.

Responsibilities

• Manage projects throughout their lifecycle, ensuring goals for Canonical and clients are met.
• Deliver engineering professional services for assigned projects.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery.
• Develop project statements of work.
• Create and maintain project schedules and plans.
• Obtain client approval for schedules and work items.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and resources.
• Manage risk mitigation plans.
• Resolve technical issues to achieve delivery outcomes.
• Maintain regular communication with clients and internal teams.
• Manage delivery schedules of third-party deliverables.
• Keep management informed on project status.
• Identify and address custom engineering requests outside existing contracts.
• Promote Canonical technologies to customers.
• Support work across different time zones and non-traditional hours as needed.

Qualifications

• Proven project management experience in delivering engineering services and managing software development teams.
• Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project teams, especially in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred.
• Knowledge of Linux, open source community, and computer architecture.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with experience building partnerships and managing complex organizational relationships.
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times a year.
