Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems to coordinate and complete large, complex customer-facing projects, overseeing all aspects of delivery and acting as the primary liaison between engineering teams and customers. You will manage projects involving Ubuntu images on devices such as robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. This high-profile role requires building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and other departments.

Location: Remote in the Americas region.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing projects through their full lifecycle to meet goals for Canonical and clients.
• Delivering engineering professional services.
• Collaborating with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery.
• Developing project statements of work.
• Creating and maintaining project schedules and plans.
• Securing client agreement on schedules and work items.
• Ensuring projects are delivered within scope, time, and resources.
• Managing risks and mitigation plans.
• Driving technical issues to resolution.
• Maintaining communication with clients and stakeholders.
• Managing delivery schedules of third-party deliverables.
• Keeping management informed of project status.
• Identifying and managing engineering requests outside existing contracts.
• Advocating for Canonical technologies.
• Supporting work across time zones and non-traditional hours as needed.

Requirements:

• Proven project management experience in engineering services and software development teams.
• Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project resources, especially in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred.
• Knowledge of Linux, open source community, and computer architecture.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with experience building partnerships and managing complex organizational relationships.
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred.
• Willing to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times a year.
