Role & Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as the Project Manager and subject matter expert (SME) for trenchless and crossing scopes on major pipeline projects, including horizontal directional drilling (HDD), direct pipe, microtunnelling, and bore crossings.
  • Lead and manage crossing programs from concept through construction and closeout, including feasibility, method selection, design coordination, contractor procurement, and execution.
  • Evaluate crossing methods and constructability, and provide technical guidance on geotechnical conditions, drill path and alignment design, pull-back loads, and risk mitigation.
  • Manage and direct engineering, geotechnical, permitting, and environmental consultants and specialty trenchless contractors.
  • Review and challenge contractor plans, schedules, and means and methods, including drilling fluid management, contingency (e.g., frac-out) planning, and inadvertent return response.
  • Coordinate permitting and stakeholder requirements for crossings of rivers, wetlands, highways, railways, and existing utilities, including regulator, landowner, and third-party interfaces.
  • Own the crossing program strategy, register, and risk-based tiering.
  • Define the procurement and contracting strategy for specialty contractors: packaging, prequalification, market and rig capacity.
  • Identify, assess, and track risks, issues, and dependencies, and elevate as required; support change management, cost forecasting, and resource planning for crossing scopes.
  • Support program governance and executive reporting, promote safety and compliance on all crossing activities, and contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement.
Qualifications / Requirements

To succeed in this role, you bring:

  • 12+ years of project management experience on major pipeline or linear infrastructure projects, with 8+ years focused on trenchless and crossing work.
  • Strong technical background in trenchless methods, including HDD, direct pipe, microtunnelling, and bore crossings (e.g., auger bore, guided bore).
  • Demonstrated experience managing large crossing programs on major pipeline projects, ideally with large-diameter crude and/or NGL pipelines.
  • Experience working with or for a specialty trenchless or tunnelling contractor is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical investigation, crossing design and risk assessment, and permitting and regulatory requirements for water, road, and rail crossings.
  • Proven ability to act as the PM and SME, with the credibility to guide contractors, engineers, and client leadership on crossing strategy and execution.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
