Job summary

EXP is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Coral Gables, Florida. This role involves preparing engineering proposals, managing projects, and mentoring design teams. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PE registration, along with extensive experience in consulting engineering, especially in mineral mining projects.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $150,000, depending on skills and experience. A comprehensive benefits package is offered, including health insurance and 401(k) retirement benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering/design experience in an industrial setting.
  • Experience with design registration of power piping systems.
  • Knowledge of ASME codes and engineering standards.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Preparing proposals for engineering projects, including cost estimates and timelines.
  • Working and communicating positively within the team.
  • Understanding the project mission and client requirements.
  • Reading, understanding, and commenting on manufacturer equipment drawings and specifications.
  • Checking 3D models and drawings developed by others.
  • Troubleshooting, analyzing, identifying, evaluating, and proposing engineering solutions.
  • Establishing continuous improvement plans to enhance efficiency, quality, safety, or service.
  • Managing budgets, schedule, and deliverables related to layout.
  • Providing mentorship and supervision to the design team.
  • Providing support to system tools, including the Bentley Suite (OpenPlant Modeler, OpenPlant P&ID, etc.).
  • Providing regular feedback to the Overall Mechanical Engineering Lead on progress of deliverables.
  • Engaging and coordinating design with client representatives.
  • Familiarizing with company standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration (required).
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering/design experience in an industrial setting; consulting engineering experience preferred.
  • Participation and assistance in proposal preparations.
  • Design experience in consulting, especially mineral mining projects (preferred).
  • Experience in the design registration of power piping systems with the safety authority.
  • Experience with Section VIII, Division 1 pressure vessel design modifications and alterations with the safety authority.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3, B31.1, National Board, API 650, ASME Section VIII Div 1, NFPA, CSA Z662, and CSA Z276.
  • Knowledge of mining and bulk material handling processes (crushing, grinding, screening, conveying, flotation, and tailings).
  • Knowledge of piping design and process equipment, including PE piping, slurry hydraulics, tanks, pumps, and pipe stress.
  • Organized, self‑motivated, proactive, detail‑oriented, with strong communication skills.
  • Sound understanding of design, engineering codes, and technical standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering standards, codes, guidelines, and systems coordination.
  • Knowledge of mining-related processes (asset).
  • Team player, able to collaborate with others.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Willing and able to travel short durations to global project sites or offices (asset).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $110,000 to $150,000, with final compensation based on skills, experience, certifications, and geographic location. The salary may vary by location to reflect differences in cost of labor.
