Job summary

Maricopa County is seeking a Project Manager to oversee planning, design, and construction of flood control public works. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage budgets and schedules, and coordinate with consultants and stakeholders.

Hybrid work arrangement available after training, with opportunities for growth and a strong retirement program. The role requires engineering licensure within six months of employment, a PE and a Civil/Environmental/Geological background, plus at least two

Qualifications

• Two years of professional engineering experience.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration or another state, with ability to obtain Arizona registration within six months.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership in project development from planning through construction.
• Coordinate with consulting engineers, planners, and staff to ensure proper execution of all project phases.
• Prepare, negotiate, and maintain project authorizations (MOUs, Resolutions, IGAs) and present to Boards.
• Ensure conformance to county, state, and federal regulations and standards.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, review plans and reports, and manage public exhibits and analyses.
• Assist in consultant selections and contract negotiations.

We Require

• Two years of professional engineering experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, etc.), Landscape Architecture, Surveying, Hydrology, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, or by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona registration within six months of employment

Other Requirements

Successful candidates must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire.

We Also Value

• Four or more years of professional civil engineering experience
• Experience with flood control projects
• Experience in the development of the design of public works civil projects, and the preparation of related construction plans and specifications (P&S)
• Have experience in working with and directing consultants, contract management, developing budgets, and project schedules

Job Contributions

• Provide leadership, direction, and guidance in project development
• Manage and coordinate with consulting engineers, planners, and other staff to assure the proper execution of all phases of a project, including the design, preparation of construction documents, and various agreements. May be required to seal documents utilizing a PE stamp
• Plan the work and direct the development of the project design, scope of work, schedules, budgets, criteria, standards, and specifications; resolve complex problems, and assure conformance to county, state, and Federal regulations
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including reviews of project plans, specifications, technical/design reports, cost estimates, public exhibits, alternative analyses, and other deliverables with in-house staff and project partners
• Prepare, negotiate, and maintain project authorizations, including MOUs, Resolutions, IGAs, and other associated project documents, coordinate the development of these authorizations with partners, and make presentations to various Boards on projects and project authorizations
• Present projects at public meetings and board meetings, evaluate stakeholders and public concerns, and ensure project status by working with stakeholders
• Participate in consultant selections and contract negotiations

Working Conditions

• This position is eligible for hybrid flexibility after a brief training period
• Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree
• Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software, and Hardware

Use of a computer on a daily basis, with general office software.

Protective Equipment Required

Personal protective equipment will be required while on construction sites, provided by the employer.
