Job summary

Applied Digital is seeking a mid-level Project Manager to join our Energy Strategy organization. This role will support evaluation, contracting, and ongoing management of energy supply agreements for data center projects, with cross-functional collaboration across development, EPC, legal, and finance teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business, or equivalent on-the-job experience.
  • 5+ years in a commercial role negotiating and managing energy service contracts with large loads.
  • Experience with data center loads contracts is a plus.
  • Knowledge of utility tariff structures and regulatory processes with state PSCs.
  • Experience with energy hedges from RTO/ISO markets or bilateral agreements preferred.
  • Understanding of transmission grid load studies, interconnection facilities, and power generation technologies.
  • Ability to interface with legal, construction, operations, finance, and land procurement teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day coordination for energy supply agreements with utilities and providers.
  • Provide administrative and operational support during contract execution and transition activities, while maintaining ownership of post-execution contract management and compliance.
  • Identify, track and ensure delivery of energy supply contract obligations.
  • Coordinate, track and provide information on core power related contracts (ESA, CRA, CIAC, interconnection agreements) with internal teams and outside counsel.
  • Developing and reporting on key project agreement metrics (KPIs) related to energization timelines and budget variances.
  • Serve as the connective tissue between development, EPC, legal, finance, and utility counterparties to keep schedules, milestones, and obligations aligned.
  • Focus on execution, risk management, and keeping projects moving once commercial structure is defined.

Position Summary:

Applied Digital is seeking a mid-level Project Manager to join our growing Energy Strategy organization. This role will support the evaluation, contracting, and own the continued management of energy supply agreements and obligations tracking for our data center projects, The ideal candidate will be a self-sufficient project manager who can contribute across the full project lifecycle, integrate with cross functional teams to drive project delivery, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver high-quality insights aligned with business objectives.

This role is execution-focused and sits at the center of utility, regulatory, and contractual coordination and reports to the VP Energy Strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own day-to-day coordination for energy supply agreements with electric utilities, independent power producers, or other providers.
  • Provide administrative and operational support during contract execution and transition activities, while maintaining ownership of post-execution contract management and compliance.
  • Identify, track and ensure delivery of energy supply contract obligations.
  • Coordinate, track and provide information on core power related contracts (ESA, CRA, CIAC, interconnection agreements) with internal teams and outside counsel.
  • Developing and reporting on key project agreement metrics (KPIs) related to energization timelines and budget variances.
  • Serve as the connective tissue between development, EPC, legal, finance, and utility counterparties to keep schedules, milestones, and obligations aligned.
  • Focus on execution, risk management, and keeping projects moving once commercial structure is defined.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business related field (accounting, finance, management), or equivalent on-the-job experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working for or with electric utilities in a commercial role negotiating, implementing and managing energy service related contracts with large commercial or industrial loads.
  • Experience in contracts related to serving data center loads is a plus.
  • Knowledge of utility tariff structures and related regulatory processes with state public service commissions.
  • Experience with electrical energy and capacity supply contracts and hedges from the RTO/ ISO market and / or third party bi-lateral agreements would be preferred.
  • Understanding of transmission grid load studies, interconnection facilities infrastructure, and power generation technologies.
  • Ability to interface with other APLD groups, including legal, construction, operations, finance, and land procurement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of Electric Utilities, RTO and ISO constructs across various US regions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Knowledgeable in electrical load and/or behind the meter generation processes

Physical Requirements:

Able to remain in a seated position for an extended period and to lift and carry up to 15 lbs. (office manuals, case notebooks, case files, case materials, standard boxes, report binders, etc.) as needed.

Working Conditions by Location:

Remote: The Company agrees that Employee may work from home provided employee is in good standing, has a continuous secured internet connection, necessary equipment, and is accessible by MS Teams, phone, fax, and email during business hours. (See Telework policy.)

Office Environment: Business office hours, with work hours necessary to satisfactorily perform job functions. Some overtime may be required to accomplish timely work demands and meet the company’s professional commitments. Overtime hours worked are paid to nonexempt employees at one and a half times their hourly pay rate.

Site Location: We are a 24-hour facility. Work hours (shifts) are assigned as necessary to satisfactorily perform job functions, ensure compliance, and support efficient company operations. Some positions require work at irregular hours (nights/weekends), overtime, alternating shifts, and working in challenging conditions (heat/cold, hazardous environments, loud worksites). Overtime hours worked are paid to nonexempt employees at one and a half times their hourly pay rate.
