Job summary

Leading national General Contractor in Virginia is seeking a Project Manager to oversee multiple data center upgrade, retrofit and tenant improvement projects within live operational facilities.

You will own the project from preconstruction through closeout, managing schedule, budget, and contracts while coordinating with client operations teams, facility engineers, commissioning teams and trade partners to ensure uptime and safety.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of construction project management experience.
• Strong client-facing and communication skills.
• Experience with Procore, Bluebeam or similar construction management software.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple data center upgrade, retrofit and tenant improvement projects.
• Take ownership of project schedule, budget, contracts and overall delivery.
• Coordinate construction activities within live, operational data centers.
• Work closely with client operations teams, facility engineers, commissioning teams and trade partners.
• Plan work around operational constraints, shutdowns and critical infrastructure.
• Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders and project documentation.
• Lead subcontractor buyout, scope reviews and purchase orders.
• Manage project financials including billing, forecasting and cost reporting.
• Track material and equipment procurement and identify potential schedule impacts.
• Lead project meetings and maintain communication with the client and wider project team.
• Support constructability reviews, phasing plans and preconstruction.
• Identify potential project risks early and put plans in place to mitigate them.
• Manage project closeout including punch lists, as-builts, warranties and final documentation.

Job description

We are working with a leading national General Contractor looking to add Project Managers to their Mission Critical team in Virginia.

Unlike a typical new-build data center position, this team focuses on projects within existing, operational data centers. The work includes retrofits, upgrades, tenant improvements, infrastructure modifications and Day 2 projects where maintaining uptime and protecting live operations is critical.

The Project Manager will typically run multiple small-to-medium projects at the same time, taking responsibility for the project from preconstruction through delivery and closeout.

The role

What they're looking for

• 5+ years of construction Project Management experience.
• Experience managing commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
• Strong understanding of subcontractor management, project financials, scheduling and procurement.
• Experience working in data centers, mission critical, healthcare, industrial or other live/operational facilities would be beneficial.
• Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong client-facing and communication skills.
• Experience with Procore, Bluebeam or similar construction management software.

Previous data center experience is preferred but isn't essential. Candidates who have managed construction within hospitals, manufacturing plants, industrial facilities or other occupied environments where shutdowns and operational disruption need to be carefully managed will also be considered.

Experience with electrical distribution, UPS systems, generators, cooling infrastructure or other critical MEP systems would be particularly relevant.
