Job summary

MK Consulting Group seeks an Industrial Projects Steel Project Manager to oversee structural and miscellaneous steel projects from contract award through fabrication, delivery, and field erection.

The role serves as the main client, engineer, and vendor contact, coordinating detailing, estimating, and shop fabrication with field crews to deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of project management or estimating experience in structural steel fabrication or industrial construction.
• Ability to read complex structural and shop drawings.
• Familiarity with industry standards (AISC, NISD, ASTM).
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Project), Bluebeam, and 3D modeling/drafting software like Tekla or SDS/2.

Responsibilities

• Project Planning & Coordination: Review contracts, blueprints, and architectural drawings; set schedules, milestones, and manage procurement.
• Fabrication & Shop Oversight: Coordinate with fabrication shop to set production priorities and review shop drawings.
• Financial & Cost Management: Create project budgets, forecast costs, and approve change orders or invoices.
• Communication & Management: Act as primary contact for owners, general contractors, and subcontractors; lead meetings and resolve site issues.
• Safety & Quality Control: Ensure compliance with industry standards and enforce job-site safety plans.

Position Overview

The Project Manager serves as the main contact for clients, engineers, and vendors. They coordinate internal teams like detailing, estimating, and shop fabrication with external field erection crews. Their main goal is to deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Planning & Coordination: Review contracts, blueprints, and architectural drawings. Set project schedules, track milestones, and manage material procurement.
• Fabrication & Shop Oversight: Coordinate with the fabrication shop to set production priorities, monitor progress, and review shop drawings.
• Financial & Cost Management: Create project budgets, forecast costs, and approve change orders or invoices.
• Communication & Management: Act as the primary point of contact for owners, general contractors, and subcontractors. Lead project meetings and resolve site issues.
• Safety & Quality Control: Ensure all work complies with industry standards (such as AISC and ASTM guidelines) and enforce job-site safety plans.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Technical Skills: Ability to read complex structural and shop drawings. Familiarity with industry standards (AISC, NISD, ASTM).
• Software Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Project), Bluebeam, and 3D modeling or detailing software (like Tekla or SDS/2).
• Education: A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is often preferred, though equivalent hands‑on industry experience is widely accepted.
