Job summary

The Weitz Company is seeking a Project Manager II to join our Industrial team. This traveling role requires seven years of construction PM experience and Power Generation exposure is preferred.

You will drive risk management, schedules, subcontractor coordination and project closeouts while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to achieve performance targets and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Education: An industry related bachelor's degree is required; equivalent combinations may be considered.
  • Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years of construction project management experience is required.
  • Technology: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook; learn Procore, Bluebeam, JDE, Asta as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Understand contract terms to ensure work in progress is within scope.
  • Accept responsibility for risk management and mitigation on assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with the project team to implement goals and quality programs.
  • Coordinate schedule creation and management; address long lead items and changes.
  • Ensure contracts, insurances, bonds and change orders are intact before scope execution.
  • Complete safety plans and site compliance; manage RFIs and submittals.
  • Oversee construction documents and drawings; monitor material/equipment delivery and cost impacts.
  • Assist with preconstruction activities; manage buyout process and bid strategy.
  • Negotiate and manage scopes of work in subcontracts and PO agreements.
  • Prepare monthly project status reports and owner billings; assess financial risk.
  • Manage change requests with subcontractors within delegated authority.
  • Participate in marketing and business development; lead proposals and presentations.
  • Foster relationships with personnel; seek third party opportunities when appropriate.
  • Manage closeout information, punch lists, as-builts, and warranty processes.
  • Handle dispute resolution among subcontractors, vendors, and owners.

We are currently accepting applications for a Project Manager II to join our Industrial team. This is a traveling position. Power Generation experience preferred.

What You’ll Do Every Day:
  • Understand contract terms and obligations to ensure work in progress is within scope
  • Accept overall responsibility of risk management and mitigation for assigned project(s)
  • Collaborate with project team to implement and execute project goals, build high morale and implement quality programs and initiatives
  • Coordinate with project team to create and manage the project schedule, identify and address long lead items, update and amend project plan as needed
  • Confirm contracts, insurances, bonds and change orders are intact prior to scope execution
  • Complete project safety plan and ensure site compliance
  • Oversee construction documents, drawings, requests for information (RFI) and submittals
  • Ensure project team is tracking material and equipment delivery status, notifying project team of any schedule or cost impacts and tracking requests for change
  • Assist with preconstruction efforts (i.e. create preliminary schedule, determine bid strategy and solicitation, detect potential constructability issues, ensure seamless transition to operations); manage buyout process
  • Create, negotiate and manage scopes of work to be included in subcontracts and/or purchase order agreements
  • Complete monthly project status reports (MPSR), owner billings and financial risk assessments
  • Manage subcontractor requests for change; solicitate pricing and execute change orders, within delegated authority
  • Participate in marketing and business development initiatives, including leading project proposals and presentations
  • Foster and maintain working relationships with all personnel involved in the construction process; initiate third party relationships when opportunities arise
  • Manage closeout information, punch list items, as-built drawings and warranty process
  • Manage dispute resolution among subcontractors, vendors, architects and owners, within delegated authority
  • Review project plan with project team; coordinate and communicate scopes of work
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For:
  • Education: An industry related bachelor's degree is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years of construction project management experience is required. LEAN principles experience and ability to apply principles is desirable. OSHA 30 preferred, or the willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Technology: Proficiency in basic computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Outlook. Employee should have the ability to learn other specific software (JDE, Procore, Bluebeam, Asta, etc.).
  • Skills: A qualified candidate will demonstrate initiative, independent judgment, project management and analytical skills. They should also show strong negotiation, leadership, business acumen, client relation and decision making abilities.
  • Technology: Candidate should have experience with or be able to learn specific project management and scheduling software (ex: JDE, Procore, Bluebeam). Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. Training will be provided on company standards.
