Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Project Manager I or II for Structured Cabling to lead projects, manage budgets, and drive client satisfaction. The role requires overseeing procurement, subcontracts, and coordination with owners on-site; heavy travel is expected across the U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
  • Proven ability to assist with all responsibilities for complex projects
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  • Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Current driver’s license
  • Ability to travel up to 100%
  • Experience with Primavera (P6) scheduling software (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership direction to a project; manage quality, timeliness and safety
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships and deliver excellent service
  • Manage the overall financial health of projects
  • Lead vendor procurement and bid/award phases including RFPs and contracts
  • Develop and maintain project financial projections and equipment projections
  • Determine and allocate project estimates into the financial system
  • Determine cost codes, approve invoices, and manage budget decisions
  • Provide financial and billing coordination with Accounting for timely payments
  • Create monthly owner billings
  • Oversee budget for trades and suppliers and manage contract negotiations
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers on the project
  • Provide direction to Assistant Project Manager(s) and Project Engineer(s)
  • Act as main point of contact with owner and on-site representative
  • Review owner agreement and resolve site concerns
  • Manage change orders with client/architect approvals

Project Manager I or II – Structured Cabling
Summary

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Project Manager I or II - Structured Cabling to join our team. Project Managers will provide overall leadership direction to a project; including the management of project quality, timeliness, and safety, as well as mentoring the project team. Develop and enhance customer relationships by providing excellent service.

  • This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 or 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.
Location: TBD – location and project will be assigned. This role will require 100% travel on a rotational basis (on average it could be 3-4 weeks on a project site / about 1 week at home. This schedule is an estimate as it is also based on project need)
  • Traveling opportunities across the U.S. include but not limited to: LA, TX, CA, NM, WY, WI, IN, UT, IL
Responsibilities

Organization, flexibility, outstanding customer focus, and strong communication are critical in performing duties which include, but are not limited to:

Manage the overall financial health of projects
  • Support and potentially lead EPC contract negotiations with customers, including assembly of technical exhibits, the scope of work, and project schedules to align with contract requirements.
  • Leading vendor procurement and bid/award phase for all major subs and suppliers. Including RFP creation, vendor solicitation, technical scoping, risk analysis, budget alignment, and contract negotiations.
  • Develop and maintain project financial projections and equipment projections
  • Determine and allocate project estimates into the financial system
  • Determine cost codes, approve invoices, and make necessary budget management decisions
  • Provide financial and billings to Accounting for timely payment
  • Create monthly owner billings
Manage subcontracts and suppliers for the project
  • Oversee budget for and make selections of trade partners and suppliers
  • Handle billings and contract management, including contract buyouts
Manage Assistant Project Manager(s) and Project Engineer(s)
  • Provide job assignments and manage career development
  • Approve timecards for on-site team members
  • Provide ongoing feedback on work performance
Function as the main point of contact with the owner and on-site representative
  • Assist with the review of the owner agreement
  • Resolve site concerns for the owner or representative
  • Provide frequent interactions and service to build positive relationships and future work opportunities
Manage change orders
  • Determine when to submit to the owner or on-site representatives
  • Obtain the customer/architect’s approval
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent experience

Project Manager I Qualifications
  • 6+ years of related commercial construction project management or related experience
Project Manager II Qualifications
  • 7+ years of related commercial construction project management or related experience with large projects ($20M+)

The base compensation range for this role is: $113,500 - $198,200. Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skill, and experience with consideration given to internal equity.
