What you will do

The Construction Project Manager is part of our Building Solutions North America business at Johnson Controls. Lead large, complex, multi-million dollar Controls construction projects throughout the U.S. This is a U.S.-based remote position. Will travel to customer sites as required by the project, with potential travel of up to 50% or more.

Under general direction, responsible for the profitable execution of assigned projects. Collaborates with owner and contractor sales managers, branch installation managers, and teams to provide sales support activities early in the project lifecycle, including strategy, vendor/partner selection, scope enhancements, value engineering, and risk assessment. Ensures projects are completed accurately, on time, billed, within budget, and within scope, maintaining positive cash flow and actively pursuing change orders. Ensures work complies with all legal requirements and safety standards, following consistent project management procedures to balance customer satisfaction and financial results.

How you will do it

• Act as the primary on-site leader for execution teams, developing and implementing project schedules.
• Evaluate contractual scope and manage changes, performing cost estimates, proposals, and negotiations.
• Manage costs, billings, and collections, ensuring timely and accurate project billing and maintaining profitability.
• Review and interpret contract terms, analyze financial reports, and communicate project status proactively.
• Manage risks, establish recovery plans, and resolve disputes efficiently.
• Negotiate, prepare, and issue subcontracts, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and standards.
• Oversee project construction, manage material procurement, and develop long-term client relationships.
• Coordinate resources with project teams, facilitate customer training, and support project development efforts.

What we look for

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, or an Associate’s Degree with equivalent experience.
• Minimum of eight years of project management experience in the building construction industry.
• Management experience with Mechanical Retrofits, HVAC controls, BAS, Fire, and Security systems is preferred.
• PMI/PMP certification expected within 2 years.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Proficiency in project management software and MS Office suite.
• Willingness to travel as required, with the ability to handle complex projects involving multiple subcontractors and scopes of work.
