HITT is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to help assemble and direct information, budgets, and schedules for commercial construction projects. You will work with superintendents and the site team, develop pre-construction packages, manage RFIs, submittals, and pay apps, and ensure quality control.

Applicants should have 2–5 years of commercial construction experience, a relevant degree or equivalent work history, and proficiency with common project software.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; four-year degree in construction, engineering, or business preferred.
  • In lieu of a degree, additional work experience is acceptable.
  • 2–5 years of commercial construction experience, ideally with a commercial general contractor.
  • Experience on commercial job sites strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with project software systems is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate information and approvals to keep projects on time and within budget.
  • Create and manage project budgets for all assigned projects.
  • Develop pre-construction RFP packages for bids and approvals.
  • Lead project meetings, milestones and owner reporting.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals and pay applications; approve pay apps.
  • Update project schedules and ensure quality control across trades.
  • Support closeout processes and final handoff to operations.
  • Collaborate with the project superintendent and site operations team.

An Assistant Project Manager (APM) obtains, evaluates, coordinates and distributes the information and authorizations necessary to construct projects on time, within budget and to the quality specified. The APM is responsible to protect and promote the interest of both the business and client in all matters as well as demonstrate the personal characteristics of a leader.

  • Maintain adherence to HITT’s standards of safety
  • Ensure that required documentation is filed
  • Assist in creating and managing project budget for all assigned projects
  • Develop pre-construction RFP package
  • Assist in conducting project meetings, setting milestones and formulating monthly owner report
  • Establish job processes (RFIs, submittals, and pay applications) including approving pay applications and negotiating subcontract change orders
  • Update project schedule; ensure project quality control and establish overall project logistics
  • Assist in managing the closeout process
  • Collaborate with the project superintendent and site operations team throughout the life of the project
  • High school diploma required, four-year degree from an accredited university with a concentration in construction, engineering, or business is strongly preferred
  • In lieu of a degree, additional work experience is acceptable
  • 2-5 years’ experience in commercial construction, including experience with a commercial general contractor
  • Previous experience on commercial job sites strongly preferred
  • Passion for construction and our industry; ability to recognize and seek quality
  • Ability to master sector/project-specific software systems including but not limited to: Microsoft Office suite (ex. Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.), ProCore, Adobe, BlueBeam, JD Edwards

This position reports to/is sponsored by an Operations team member (a senior project manager or above). The superintendent gives task-related and/or day-to-day direction to assistant superintendents, project engineers, Site Workforce team members, vendors, and subcontractors. Superintendents are expected to work from the project jobsite daily.

RESPONSIBILITIESSUBCONTRACTOR MANAGERMENT / CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS
  • Proactively reviews and confirms work is being installed according to the project scope at the trade level and meets applicable codes
  • Strategically schedules and coordinates subcontractors, vendors, and site trades to achieve schedule efficiencies while in compliance with contract documents
CLOSEOUT
  • Proactively completes the punchlist and ensures completion before starting the next project
QUALITY CONTROL
  • Recognizes the highest quality standards of individual trades at the most-detailed level; promotes and implements quality methods and materials; consistently adds content to develop the quality control plan
