Job description

We are seeking a highly organized and execution-oriented Project Manager/Director to lead data center liquid-cooling retrofit and upgrade projects, with a primary focus on single-phase spray cooling. The Project Manager will own overall project organization, planning, coordination, documentation, schedule, follow-up, and delivery from customer engagement through final acceptance. This is a project-execution role rather than a product or solution design role.

Role in the Organization

The Project Manager/Director works closely with the Technical & Solution Architect. The Technical & Solution Architect owns the technical workstream, including product design, solution architecture, engineering decisions, technical specifications, technical validation, and technical customer requirements. The Project Manager/Director owns the overall project execution and ensures that technical deliverables are clearly defined, scheduled, coordinated, and completed on time.

Key Responsibilities
1. Overall Project Ownership
  • Own the overall project execution plan from customer requirement, bid, and purchase order through installation, commissioning, and customer acceptance.
  • Establish project scope, milestones, deliverables, responsibilities, schedule, communication cadence, and escalation procedures.
  • Lead project kickoff meetings and recurring project reviews.
  • Maintain the master project schedule and drive the project team toward milestone completion.
  • Provide clear and timely project status reports to management and customers.
2. Data Center Retrofit & Upgrade Projects
  • Manage brownfield liquid-cooling retrofit and upgrade projects in existing operating data centers.
  • Coordinate site surveys, site readiness, logistics, installation planning, and customer access requirements.
  • Coordinate project interfaces with existing cooling, piping, electrical, controls/BMS, rack, and facility infrastructure.
  • Develop installation sequencing and coordinate activities to minimize disruption to live data-center operations.
  • Track site preparation, equipment delivery, installation, commissioning, punch-list closure, and final acceptance.
3. Project Organization & Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Coordinate Sales, Technical & Solution, Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, Field Service, contractors, and customer teams.
  • Clearly define ownership and deadlines for each project deliverable.
  • Maintain action-item, dependency, risk, and issue trackers.
  • Drive cross-functional issue resolution and elevate unresolved issues to the appropriate owner.
  • Ensure communication and handoffs between engineering, manufacturing, field execution, and customer teams are effective.
4. RFQ / RFP / Bid Management
  • Lead the overall preparation and coordination of RFQ, RFP, quotation, proposal, and bid packages.
  • Own the bid schedule and coordinate timely inputs from Sales, Technical & Solution, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations.
  • Collect technical content from the Technical & Solution Manager and ensure it is incorporated correctly into customer documentation.
  • Coordinate project scope, assumptions, schedule, BOM/equipment lists, installation requirements, commercial inputs, and execution plans.
  • Ensure bid documentation is complete, internally reviewed, approved, consistent, and submitted on time.
5. Project Follow-Up & Execution Control
  • Conduct regular project follow-up meetings and maintain clear action-item ownership.
  • Monitor engineering deliverables, procurement status, manufacturing progress, shipment, site readiness, installation, and commissioning.
  • Identify schedule risks and delays early and drive corrective actions.
  • Maintain project change control and communicate impacts to scope, schedule, cost, and resources.
  • Coordinate installation and commissioning activities with field service teams, contractors, technical teams, and customers.
  • Coordinate FAT/SAT, functional testing, thermal-performance testing, leak checks, controls integration, and other project acceptance activities.
  • Track punch-list items and ensure timely closure.
  • Coordinate final project documentation, test reports, as-built information, and customer acceptance.
7. Project Risk, Cost & Schedule Management
  • Maintain project risk and issue registers and conduct regular risk reviews.
  • Track project schedule, resource requirements, procurement risks, and major cost drivers.
  • Escalate critical technical issues to the Technical & Solution Manager and ensure resolution is tracked to closure.
  • Monitor project execution against approved scope, budget, and schedule.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of project-management experience, preferably in data centers, HVAC, MEP, liquid cooling, semiconductor facilities, or other mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience managing retrofit, upgrade, installation, construction, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and external contractors.
  • Strong experience with project schedules, RFQ/RFP documentation, procurement follow-up, site coordination, and project reporting.
  • Strong organizational, communication, ownership, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, schedules, and technical project documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with data-center liquid cooling and brownfield retrofit projects.
  • Experience with single-phase spray cooling, CDU/TCS, rack cooling, or related thermal-management systems.
  • Experience working with data-center operators, EPCs, contractors, OEMs, cloud providers, or AI infrastructure customers.
  • Experience with MS Project, Smartsheet, Primavera, Jira, or similar project-management tools.
  • PMP certification is a plus.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an execution-focused project leader who can organize people, documents, schedules, suppliers, contractors, and customer activities and relentlessly follow up until the project is delivered. The candidate does not need to be the primary technical designer; instead, the candidate must be technically conversant enough to understand project dependencies, identify gaps, coordinate the right technical owners, and keep the overall project moving.
