Job summary

Barry-Wehmiller Design Group in Maryland seeks an experienced Automation and Controls Engineering Manager to lead and grow the controls and automation business in the local office. You will manage projects from conception to delivery, design electrical control systems, and program PLC/HMI/SCADA solutions for process industries.

Job description

  • Support capital projects and implement solutions for clients individually and in teams
  • Manage project tasks including hardware and panel design, PLC and HMI programming, SCADA design, power distribution design, and associated project documentation
  • Manage project execution including proposal preparation, estimating, scheduling, resources, project finances, staffing, contract negotiation, order processing, quality control, customer satisfaction, and project setup
  • Ensure proper use of company facilities, plant, and equipment
  • Lead, develop, and grow the controls and automation business in the local office
  • Maintain relationships with key client contacts
  • Mentor and guide professionals through feedback, evaluation, training, and career development guidance
  • Provide quarterly reporting to office partners and regional partners
  • Coordinate with finance to ensure proper reporting of controls and automation group activities
  • Promote a positive image of Barry-Wehmiller Design Group and support a strong culture consistent with company Guiding Principles of Leadership
  • Coordinate work activities across multiple functional areas to ensure satisfactory project delivery
  • Manage all aspects of the project life cycle, including planning, scope definition, design, execution, and delivery
  • Track progress against milestones, budgets, and performance indicators; prepare and deliver management reports
  • Select, negotiate with, and manage external consultants or vendors
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in developing and programming automation solutions for the food and beverage, life sciences, or industrial design industries
  • Experience designing electrical control systems and programming automation systems for process applications
  • Proficiency in Rockwell hardware and software solutions
  • Experience with Siemens, AVEVA (Wonderware), and GE software/hardware (preferred)
  • Experience in life sciences, food & beverage, pulp & paper, or other industrial industries (preferred)
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with all levels of management, clients, and vendors
  • Travel for project requirements including installation and start-up activities, client and company sponsored meetings, trainings, industry related seminars, forums, and conventions
  • A bachelor of science in electrical engineering is preferred, but consideration will be given to other engineering degrees based on relevant experience
  • Willingness to undergo applicable pre-employment screening
  • Must meet applicable work authorization requirements; organization uses E-Verify
