Job summary

AlphaHire is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee commercial electrical construction projects in Detroit. The role leads projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring safety, on-time delivery, budget compliance, and top-quality execution.

The ideal candidate will coordinate field and office operations across healthcare, higher education, institutional, manufacturing, and other complex projects, working with clients, GC, field teams, and internal departments to maintain

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of project management experience with a commercial electrical contractor.
  • Experience with self-performing commercial electrical contracting.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience coordinating field and office operations.
  • Healthcare, higher education, institutional or manufacturing project experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction to closeout.
  • Develop and maintain schedules, budgets, procurement plans, manpower forecasts, and cost projections.
  • Monitor financial performance including labor productivity, forecasting, billing, changes orders, and profitability.
  • Coordinate field operations with superintendents, foremen, electricians, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
  • Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation to ensure successful execution.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, material procurement, commissioning, closeout documentation, and turnover.
  • Collaborate with estimating teams during handoff for a seamless transition into construction.
  • Lead project meetings and provide progress updates to owners, architects, engineers, and leadership.
  • Identify risks, resolve field issues, and implement solutions to meet schedule, budget, quality, and safety.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee commercial electrical construction projects for a well-established electrical contractor serving the Detroit market. This role is responsible for leading projects from preconstruction through closeout while ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate has a strong background managing commercial electrical projects, excels at coordinating field and office operations, and can successfully oversee multiple projects simultaneously. This individual will work closely with clients, general contractors, field teams, and internal departments to deliver successful projects while maintaining strong financial performance. Experience with healthcare, higher education, institutional, manufacturing, and other complex commercial projects is highly preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Manage commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through final completion.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, procurement plans, manpower forecasts, and cost projections.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including labor productivity, forecasting, billing, change orders, and overall profitability.
  • Coordinate field operations with superintendents, foremen, electricians, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation to ensure successful execution.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, material procurement, commissioning, closeout documentation, and project turnover.
  • Partner with estimating teams during project handoff to ensure a seamless transition into construction.
  • Collaborate with BIM/VDC personnel to improve constructability, coordination, and installation planning.
  • Lead project meetings and provide regular progress updates to owners, architects, engineers, and company leadership.
  • Identify project risks, resolve field issues, and implement solutions that maintain schedule, budget, quality, and safety goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, contract requirements, and safety regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • 5+ years of project management experience with a commercial electrical contractor.
  • Experience working for a self-performing commercial electrical contractor is required.
  • Proven success managing commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Strong understanding of commercial electrical systems, construction sequencing, installation methods, and field operations.
  • Experience managing project schedules, budgets, procurement, labor planning, forecasting, billing, and project financials.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction documents.
  • Experience collaborating with estimating, preconstruction, and BIM/VDC teams.
  • Proficiency with construction project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with healthcare, hospitals, higher education, institutional, manufacturing, or other large commercial projects is highly preferred.
