Job summary

Thomas & Hutton seeks a senior civil engineer to lead residential site development projects across the Southeast. You will manage multi-project scopes, develop construction drawings for water, sewer, and storm drainage systems, and drive client relations and business development.

You will mentor engineers and technicians, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and deliver projects on time and within budget, while communicating risks and solutions to clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• PE license required.
• 6+ years of civil engineering design and project management experience.
• Experience producing residential site design plans for residential clients.
• Strong understanding of civil site design (water, sewer, storm drainage).
• Experience managing project scopes, schedules and budgets.
• Strong written and verbal communication with a client-focused approach.
• Demonstrated business development skills.
• Strong leadership abilities with experience supervising project teams.
• Understanding of business financial metrics and project performance tracking.
• Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize workflow.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage one or more civil site development projects for residential/private sector clients.

• Develop project scopes, schedules and budgets; ensure delivery of projects.
• Lead proposal preparation and fee development efforts.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams.
• Visit client offices and project sites to support execution and business development.
• Oversee engineering work and interface with other disciplines as needed.
• Monitor project progress using accounting and project tracking tools.
• Supervise and mentor engineers and technicians within project teams.
• Communicate project status, risks, and solutions clearly.

What you'll do

What you bring

• Professional Engineer (PE) license required


• 6+ years of experience in civil engineering design and project management


• Experience producing residential site design plans and working with residential clients


• Strong understanding of civil site design, including water, sewer, and storm drainage systems


• Experience managing project scope, schedules, and budgets


• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, preferably Civil 3D


• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a client-focused approach


• Demonstrated business development skills


• Strong leadership abilities with experience supervising project teams


• Understanding of business financial metrics and project performance tracking


• Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and appropriately prioritize workflow


• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
