Job summary

Symrise AG seeks a seasoned Capital Project Execution professional to manage multiple capital projects from concept to closeout at a major site. You will guide projects through initiation, FEED, engineering, procurement, execution, commissioning, and start-up while coordinating diverse teams and stakeholders.

The role emphasizes safety, cost control, and on-time delivery, with responsibilities spanning budgeting, planning, and governance of the capital portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 5–10 years of engineering/project experience in chemical, petrochemical, refining, specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, or similar process-manufacturing environments.
  • 2–5 years of direct experience managing capital process plant projects from concept through commissioning and closeout.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and construction activities.
  • Working knowledge of capital estimating, scheduling, procurement, construction management, commissioning, and project controls.
  • Understanding of industrial safety and process safety requirements for capital project execution.
  • Experience managing contractors, engineering firms, equipment suppliers, and construction vendors.

Your role
Capital Project Execution

Directly manage multiple capital projects ranging approximately from $20,000 to $50 million, depending upon project complexity, risk, and business requirements.

Manage projects through the complete project lifecycle: INITIATION to CONCEPT / FEL to ENGINEERING & PLANNING to APPROVAL to PROCUREMENT to EXECUTION to MONITORING & CONTROL to COMMISSIONING / STARTUP to CLOSEOUT

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop project charters, objectives, business justification, scope, deliverables, and success criteria.
  • Lead feasibility studies, alternatives analyses, conceptual engineering, and Front-End Loading/Front-End Engineering activities.
  • Develop preliminary and definitive project cost estimates.
  • Establish project schedules, milestones, critical paths, and resource requirements.
  • Develop project execution plans and contracting strategies.
  • Coordinate engineering disciplines, contractors, vendors, procurement, Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, EHS, Finance, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage Requests for Proposal (RFPs), bid evaluations, vendor selections, purchase requisitions, and contract recommendations.
  • Monitor commitments, actual expenditures, forecasts, contingency, and Estimate at Completion (EAC).
  • Manage project scope and prevent uncontrolled scope growth.
Capital Portfolio Management and Governance

Serve as a key site resource for the development and execution of the annual and multi-year capital investment plan.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate annual capital planning and budgeting activities.
  • Support development of the site's 3-5-year capital master plan.
  • Develop preliminary scopes, schedules, and cost estimates for future capital investments.
  • Facilitate project prioritization based on safety, regulatory compliance, reliability, asset integrity, production, business growth, sustainability, and financial return.
  • Maintain visibility of approved, pending, and future capital projects.
  • Monitor portfolio-level spending, commitments, forecasts, schedules, and project status.
  • Identify projects at risk of exceeding approved scope, cost, or schedule.
Engineering Standards and Project Management Systems

Support continuous improvement of the Project Engineering function by developing, maintaining, standardizing, and training personnel on project management and engineering systems.

Required
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or other applicable Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of engineering/project experience in a chemical, petrochemical, refining, specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, or comparable process-manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of direct experience managing capital process plant projects from concept through commissioning and closeout.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and construction activities.
  • Working knowledge of capital estimating, scheduling, procurement, construction management, commissioning, and project controls.
  • Understanding of industrial safety and process safety requirements applicable to capital project execution.
  • Experience managing contractors, engineering firms, equipment suppliers, and construction vendors.
Preferred
  • Experience managing simultaneous projects across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience with brownfield projects executed within continuously operating process plants.
  • Experience with shutdown/turnaround project planning and execution.
  • Experience with project stage-gate or Front-End Loading methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management, MOC, PHA, PSSR, and RAGAGEP requirements.
  • Experience developing capital budgets and multi-year capital plans.
  • PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project-management certification.
