Job summary

Prime Partners in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead building automation, HVAC, electrical, and construction projects from planning through closeout. You will coordinate with customers, subcontractors, engineers, and internal teams to deliver safely, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate has hands-on PM experience in building technologies and can read drawings, manage scope, and communicate progress to stakeholders while maintaining strong customer

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Project Management experience in construction and BAS-related projects.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and field technicians.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specs.
  • Strong budgeting, scheduling, and forecasting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from planning and estimating through installation, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and resource plans.
  • Coordinate with customers, contractors, subcontractors, technicians, engineers, and internal teams.
  • Review project scope, drawings, specifications, estimates, and contract requirements.
  • Coordinate material procurement, equipment delivery, labor, and installation activities.
  • Monitor project costs, billing, profitability, and financial performance.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Track project progress and communicate status, issues, and changes to stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage change-order opportunities.
  • Support estimating and proposal activities by providing technical and project input.
  • Coordinate installation, startup, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Review engineering submittals and ensure work aligns with project scope, budget, specifications, and customer expectations.
  • Work with field technicians and subcontractors to resolve installation and technical issues.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and serve as a primary point of contact throughout project execution.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with applicable safety, quality, and company standards.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide regular updates to management and customers.
  • Support project closeout, documentation, final billing, and customer handoff.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support building automation, HVAC, electrical, and construction-related projects in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area.

The Project Manager will be responsible for managing projects from planning and estimating through installation, commissioning, closeout, and customer handoff. This position will work closely with customers, subcontractors, technicians, engineers, sales, and internal operations teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to customer expectations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction project management, HVAC, electrical systems, building automation, mechanical systems, or related building technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage projects from initial planning and estimating through installation, commissioning, and closeout.

Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of Project Management experience in construction, HVAC, electrical, mechanical systems, building automation, or a related industry.
  • Experience managing construction or building systems projects involving subcontractors and field technicians.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical systems, mechanical systems, or building automation controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, mechanical/electrical plans, and project specifications.
  • Experience with project scheduling, budgeting, cost tracking, and forecasting.
  • Strong understanding of construction project processes and field operations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, contractors, technicians, engineers, and internal teams.
  • Ability to travel locally to customer and project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) or HVAC controls.
  • Experience with systems such as Tridium/Niagara, Distech, Alerton, or other BAS platforms.
  • Experience with commercial or industrial construction projects.
  • Experience with commissioning and startup of building systems.
  • Experience with Procore, Microsoft Project, or similar project management/scheduling tools.
  • Experience managing budgets, schedules of values, change orders, invoicing, and project forecasting.
  • Previous experience working with mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or controls contractors.
