ARCO/Murray seeks a BAS Controls Project Manager in Chicago to lead complex projects from design through commissioning. You will oversee DDC/PLC/SCADA programming, coordinate field installation, and review control narratives with clients and the design team to deliver an integrated, high-quality solution.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of DDC or industrial controls experience.
• Strong understanding of control systems architecture (DDC, PLC, HMIs, SCADA).
• Experience with Tridium Niagara platform.
• Excellent problem-solving and leadership abilities.
• Understanding of HVAC and process engineering principles.
• Willingness to travel and spend 25–50% on construction job sites.
• Familiar with construction practices and principles.

Responsibilities

• Lead full project life cycle from preconstruction to closeout, including controls design, buyout, installation and commissioning.
• Oversee DDC, PLC, and SCADA programming, with mapping, sequencing, and testing coordination.
• Review control narratives, shop drawings, and as-built docs for accuracy and compliance.
• Support equipment and controls buyout, including instrumentation selection and procurement planning.
• Direct field installation activities for low-voltage controls, wiring coordination, panel installations, and communications.
• Collaborate with clients and design teams to deliver ARCO’s integrated model on complex projects.
• Grow ARCO’s self-perform controls services and contribute as a leading team member.
• Troubleshooting is a key responsibility from discovery to root-cause analysis and resolution.
• Work on mission critical, advanced manufacturing, power & gas, municipal, and other project types.
• Maintain safety and quality as top priorities throughout project execution.

Second Order Controls – a division of ARCO/Murray National Construction – is seeking a highly-motivated BAS Controls Project Manager to join our team based in Chicago, IL. A Day In The Life

• Lead all aspects of a project from earliest stages of preconstruction through project closeout. This includes controls design, buyout, installation, and commissioning activities.
• Oversee DDC, PLC, and SCADA programming efforts, including point mapping, sequence implementation, testing strategy, graphics coordination, and field integration support.
• Review control narratives, shop drawings, panel layouts, submittals, and as-built documentation to confirm accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project scope.
• Support equipment and controls buyout, including instrumentation selection, controller architecture, vendor evaluations, and procurement planning.
• Direct field installation activities for low-voltage controls systems, including device placement, wiring coordination, control panel installation, communications infrastructure, and point-to-point verification.
• Work closely with clients and design team to deliver ARCO’s fully integrated model on ARCO’s most complex projects.
• Operate as a leading contributor in growing ARCO’s self-perform controls services.
• Troubleshooting is a major element in this role. Candidate will not only be responsible for identifying issues, but also guiding issues from discovery, through troubleshooting/root cause analysis, to final issue resolution.
• Project types include Mission Critical, Advanced Manufacturing, Power & Gas Infrastructure, Municipal and Private Water Treatment, Waste-to-Value, Commercial, Controlled Environments Agriculture, and more.

Necessary Qualifications

• Preferred 5-10 years of DDC or industrial controls experience.
• Strong understanding of control systems architecture, including DDC controllers, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA platforms, instrumentation, field devices, control panels, and communications networks.
• Experience with Tridium Niagara platform.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible style in working with different types of individuals
• Strong understanding of engineering principles (HVAC, thermodynamics, heat transfer, process engineering)
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Highly entrepreneurial and self-motivated, with the ability to successfully work on own
• Comfortable with spending time on construction jobsite – 25% to 50%.
• Familiar with construction practices and principles

Typical base compensation for the Project Manager role is between $84,000.00 and $160,000.00. Candidates with extensive experience may exceed this range. In addition to base salary, the role is eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation based on individual and company performance.
