WORK DESCRIPTION:
Project Manager-Project Implementation-AMI
actively seeking an experienced Project/Program Manager to work on contract for 12 months in a client facing position managing an advanced meter infrastructure implementation project located at the customers site in Austin, Texas.
The Customer Care Division of Austin Energy is recruiting for a highly experienced and effective project manager to lead the implementation of a comprehensive Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) solution for the utility. This position will report to the Director of the Customer Care Division and be responsible for end-to-end project completion. The AMI project is a high profile part of Austin Energy’s Strategic Plan and capital budget. It will bring dramatic changes to the utility for both customers and employees. The successful candidate will have exceptional skills in managing AMI or equivalent projects, with demonstrated success managing stakeholder relations, contracted implementation vendors and consultants, cross functional teams, technology assessment and selection, meter data management systems, business process redesign, project budgets and deliverables.
This position will be responsible for the implementation of the AMI system, integration into the meter data management system, the new billing system, and enterprise level technology, work process redesign, cross functional implementation team management, vendor and contractor management, project budget management, and final execution of the new system across the utility.
Essential duties and functions may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Experience of successfully executing IT projects with personal accountability for delivering to time, cost, and scope for large, complex projects
- Manage project team including internal staff team of 20 to 40 persons, system implementation consultant teams plus extensive extended subject matter expert teams with cross functional memberships.
- Perform the relevant project management processes – i.e. initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control and close- out, and the supporting processes e.g. scope, cost, time, issue, risk, resource, communication, stakeholder management
- Plan the project based on a defined need — results in detailed scope/budget/schedule baseline
- Monitor and control the work to ensure that the project remains on track and in control
- Plan for and manage change
- Reports on variances to the approved project baseline
- Close the project to formalize acceptance of the project result and release project resources
- Interface and communicate with project team, management and stakeholders
- Manage project work and resources to enable successful and timely completion of the project
- Performs phase gate reviews and quality assurance reviews with all aspects of business sponsors
- Delivery of projects aligned to overall business and technology strategies and architectures
- Work within defined governance processes
- Manage external contracts and suppliers where required. Oversee project vendors including monitoring of contract deliverables and managing to defined contractor service level agreements at agreed upon budgets. The bulk of the AMI budget is for the system integrator and meter vendor(s).
- Proven strong written and oral presentation skills
- Support development of business cases with the customer team including leading on the solutions estimate
- Lead the development of the project charter and scope, and ensure delivery of the solution to schedule, budget and scope
- Develop objectives, phasing and content of the project to deliver on the business case benefits, budget and timescales
- Manage to the objectives and plan by thorough risk, issue and change management across both business and IT
- Ensures that quality project standards are met as prescribed by IT Services through the effective implementation or use of approved processes, methodologies and deliverables
- Ensure enhanced Utility operations and provision of customer services, making application configuration, implementation and maintenance decisions that will have a major and direct impact on customer service for Austin Energy
- Deal effectively with technical, legal or highly analytical issues on a regular basis as part of managing a large

- Yes Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering computer science, computer information systems, or management information systems
- 7or more Demonstrated experience in implementations of large scale IT enterprise application projects.
- 5 Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from PMI
- 5 Knowledge of project management techniques, WBS (work breakdown structure) development, and coordination of people and resources.
- 5 Specific experience with Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) technologies
- 5 Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, Power Point, SharePoint, and Visio
