Job summary

BHC is seeking a Project Manager 1 to lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams in civil and telecom fiber design projects across the United States. The role focuses on defining scope, tracking schedules, budgets, and quality, while mentoring staff and collaborating with customers.

The position emphasizes strong communication and problem-solving skills, with opportunities to participate in growth and business development within the Telecom Group.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in civil/telecom design projects (Long Haul, FTTH, FTTx).
• 1+ year of proven project management skills in telecom.
• Experience reading and marking up OSP construction drawings, splicing plans, and technical docs.
• Experience with civil design of utilities in the public right of way.

Responsibilities

• Oversee multi-discipline team of OSP, GIS, and civil engineers to deliver fiber design projects.
• Define and monitor project scope, schedule, cost, resources, quality, deliverables, and success criteria with customers.
• Document and maintain project records and develop workflows and status reports.
• Monitor scope, risks, budget, and invoicing; manage consultants’ invoicing.
• Delegate tasks and provide coaching and supervision to project team members and subconsultants.
• Support business development through client meetings, proposals, and estimates.

We are excited to share details of your career path options with you during your employment.Essential FunctionOversee multi-discipline team of OSP, GIS, and civil engineers to deliver various types of fiber design projects, such as Cable landings, Long Haul, Middle Mile, FTTx, FTTh, or ILA to the end clientDefine and monitor project scope, schedule, cost, resources, quality, deliverables, and success criteria in collaboration with customers with oversight from a Project Manager 2 or Sr. Project ManagerDocument and maintain comprehensive project records including correspondence, design plans, permits, and other related files while developing project workflows and communication documents such as status reports and internal training materialsMonitor project scope, identify potentials risks, devise contingency plans, manage project budget, including invoicing and approving consultants invoicing during the project lifecycleDelegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel and provide coaching, mentoring, motivation, and supervision to project team members and subconsultants to achieve a positive project outcome.Follow best practices and tools for successful project execution and managementSubmit accurate and complete invoices and follow through to ensure timely client paymentTake an active role in business building for growth of the department. This may include meeting with prospects or current clients to learn about new projects, leading proposal creation (with support from marketing or other managers) and creating estimates of hours and expensesWill be assigned supervisory responsibilitiesPosition RequirementsExperience6+ years of experience working on civil / telecom (Long Haul, FTTH, FTTx) design projects1+ year proven project management skills, with foundational understanding of scope, schedule, cost, quality, resource, and deliverable management preferably in telecommunicationsExperience within the telecommunications industry directly involved with fiber design including drawing production, survey and mappingProficiency in reading and marking up OSP construction drawings, splicing plans, and technical documentationExperience with civil design of utilities in the public right of wayDemonstrated project financial acumenOrganize and lead a multi-discipline teamWork independently and as a member of various teams and committeesSkillsOutstanding work ethicStrong computer skills, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPointHigh level of organization and scheduling abilitiesDesire to succeed and learn new skillsStrong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and writtenCommitment to excellence and high standardsStrong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflowVersatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasmGood judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisionsEducationBachelors degree preferredCivil Project Engineer Licensure is a plus
