Job summary

The Job

Join Our Team! The Department of Public Works - Special Districts, Project Management Division has a unique position for an experienced Project Manager to oversee design and construction projects for building facilities, roads, and related water and wastewater systems.

• Review project concept proposals, cost estimates from contractors, architectural and engineering drawings, and construction documents for completeness and accuracy.
• Administer and manage design and construction contracts, including request for proposals, estimating expenses, determining and adhering to schedules, negotiating agreements and change orders.
• Assure compliance with building codes and inspections, and act as technical advisor to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within project documents.

Conditions of Employment

Physical: Frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, and squatting; requires fine manipulation in both hands; occasionally lift and carry 10 to 50 pounds.

Pre-Employment Process: Successful completion of a background check prior to appointment.

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Department vehicle will be provided as needed and when available. Individual must provide a valid California driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance.

Minimum Requirements

1. Option 1:
   • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, Project Management, or closely related field.
   • Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience managing medium-large capital improvement projects involving design, procurement, and construction of infrastructure facilities, buildings, and equipment.
2. Option 2:
   • Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of coursework directly related to engineering, construction, and/or project management.
   • Experience: Four (4) years of professional experience managing medium-large capital improvement projects involving design, procurement, and construction of infrastructure facilities, buildings, and equipment.
3. Option 3:
   • Certification: EIT Certification.
   • Education: Bachelor's in Civil Engineering.
   • Experience: One (1) year of professional experience managing medium-large capital improvement projects involving design, procurement, and construction of infrastructure facilities, buildings, and equipment.

Desired Qualifications

Possession of a Construction Management or Engineering degree with an understanding of the varied environments and conditions common to San Bernardino County is ideal. Prepared candidate will possess related experience with municipal agencies managing water, sewer, road, and other similar services. Experience with California Public Contract Code is also desired.
