Job Type: Contract (multi-year)

Interview: IN PERSON

Experience: 7+ Years PM Exp

We are seeking a hands-on, delivery-focused Project Manager with a strong software development background to lead a high-priority Operations IT initiative focused on modernizing a legacy system and developing a new solution with AI-assisted development practices.

The ideal candidate should have progressed from a software development/engineering role into project management, giving them the technical depth to understand application architecture, development processes, dependencies, risks, and technical challenges while effectively managing delivery.

This is a complex, highly visible initiative involving legacy Ingres/OpenROAD technology, modernization, AI-assisted development, and coordination across business, technology, operations, security, data, and vendor teams.

The PM will be responsible for bringing structure, accountability, urgency, and clear communication to the project—coordinating multiple workstreams, managing dependencies and risks, resolving issues, escalating concerns early, and keeping teams aligned toward delivery

REQUIRED:
  • 7+ years of project management experience leading complex IT, application delivery, operations technology, or enterprise transformation initiatives.
  • Strong software development/engineering background is REQUIRED. The ideal candidate should have progressed from a developer, software engineer, technical lead, or similar hands-on technical role into project management, with a strong understanding of software development and technology delivery.
  • Ability to understand application architecture, SDLC, development processes, technical dependencies, integration points, and modernization challenges and translate technical issues into project and business impacts.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and coordinating work across business, technology, operations, security, data, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills across scope, schedule, risks, issues, dependencies, deliverables, and stakeholder communications.
  • Proven ability to deliver projects in fast-paced, mission-critical, or operationally sensitive environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with developers, technical leads, business stakeholders, executives, vendors, and end users.
  • Strong skills in meeting facilitation, documentation, action tracking, follow-up, and decision management.
  • Comfortable working with AI-assisted development tools, automation, analytics, data-driven practices, and emerging technologies as part of modern technology delivery.
  • Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Project, Azure DevOps, Jira, Smartsheet, Planner, Teams, SharePoint, or similar platforms.
PREFERRED:
  • Experience managing software development and application modernization projects, particularly candidates with a successful transition from developer/technical lead to project manager or delivery lead.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development, automation, analytics, data integration, or modern software delivery practices.
  • Experience leading legacy application modernization, migration, replacement, or re-platforming initiatives, including older application or database technologies such as Ingres, OpenROAD, or similar environments.
  • Experience in operations, utility, energy, critical infrastructure, regulated, or high-availability environments.
  • Experienced managing vendors, system integrators, consultants, and third-party technology partners.
  • Familiarity with change management, training, user adoption, operational readiness, and production support transition.
  • PMP, PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, SAFe, or similar certification.
