Job description

$120,000 - $180,000 | Dependent on Experience

We’re partnering with a well-established engineering consultancy that is looking to add a Project Manager and Senior Project Manager level – Forensic Engineer/Architect to its Investigative team in Indianapolis.

This is an opportunity for a PE or licensed architect with 5+ years of experience to take ownership of a diverse range of forensic investigations, condition assessments, and structural and building enclosure repair and rehabilitation projects.

You’ll work across commercial, residential, industrial, utility, and municipal facilities, evaluating everything from foundations through roofing and investigating structural failures, damage, deterioration, and building problems. The role combines hands-on fieldwork, technical analysis, repair design, project management, and direct client interaction.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and manage forensic investigations, condition assessments, and repair and rehabilitation projects.
  • Investigate damaged, deteriorated, and distressed structures, identifying the cause and extent of building problems and failures.
  • Evaluate entire structures, from foundations through roofing, and develop practical repair solutions.
  • Develop structural and building enclosure repair and rehabilitation designs for existing facilities.
  • Prepare technical reports, repair documents, drawings, proposals, and other project deliverables.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including schedules, budgets, billing, and overall project delivery.
  • Delegate, mentor, and direct junior technical staff to ensure efficient and high-quality project delivery.
  • Work directly with existing and prospective clients to coordinate projects and identify new opportunities.
  • Prepare proposals, fee justifications, and contracts alongside senior leadership.
  • Perform internal reviews of reports, drawings, proposals, and other technical documents.
  • Participate in expert witness assignments and, where required, provide expert testimony.
  • Conduct frequent local site visits with occasional regional travel.
What We’re Looking For
  • Active PE licence required; NCARB registration or similar professional licensure also considered for qualified architects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in structural design, forensic investigation, building assessment, restoration, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in evaluating existing structures and investigating failures and building problems.
  • Experience developing repair and rehabilitation solutions is highly desirable.
  • Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
Why Join?

This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer or architect to take ownership of complex forensic and restoration projects while developing both their technical and project management expertise.

You’ll work across a broad range of existing structures and building types, combining forensic investigation, structural assessment, repair design, building enclosure, and project management rather than being confined to one area of engineering.

The role also offers significant client exposure and the opportunity to mentor junior staff, contribute to proposals and new project opportunities, and play a key role in the continued development of the investigative practice.

If you're a PE with 5+ years of structural, forensic, restoration, or building assessment experience and want a role where you can take genuine ownership of projects from investigation through repair, this could be an excellent next step.
