Job Overview

Aviagen Turkeys Inc. is hiring Maintenance personnel to manage all aspects of general maintenance, ensuring safe working conditions and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

Perform basic mechanical repairs at our buildings including plumbing, lighting, heating, air conditioning, etc. Check, install, and repair equipment such as chain feed systems, line auger feed systems, Rotem controllers, watering systems, ventilation systems, generators, wells and septic systems. Other duties include repairing wooden structures, working with chicken wire, replacing electrical and plumbing fixtures, cutting Plexiglas to fit aluminum frames, routine maintenance on buildings, greasing equipment, ensuring equipment operates properly and repairing if needed, working with PVC waterline and fittings, installing Cat6 wiring.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, flooring, masonry, electrical, welding, roofing, machinery, mechanics, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).
• Ability to use basic hand tools.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow task‑specific instructions, such as Lock‑out/Tag‑out procedures.
• Own tools including a basic socket set, wrenches, skill saw, grinder, drill, sawzall, volt meter, level, and tape measure.
• Team player with strong verbal skills and a positive attitude.

Physical Requirements

• Expected to walk/stand for extended periods.
• Use measuring tools and measure precisely for cutting with power and/or hand tools.
• Move safely over uneven terrain, such as rough ground and floors with shavings.
• Frequently carry or lift objects and equipment up to 40 lbs, including lumber and metal building materials.
• Perform repetitive tasks that require hand/wrist dexterity.
• Work from aerial lift with fall restraint system at around 20 ft.
• Safely pick up materials stored at ground level.
• Apply 50 lbs of force to push carts.
• Frequently kneel or squat; capable of performing tasks in a kneeling or squatting position.
• Use both fixed and portable ladders (step and/or extension ladders).
• Utilize a variety of tools, including drills, hammers, saws, metal grinders, blowtorches, and welders.
• Wear required personal protective equipment such as ear muffs, ear plugs, safety glasses, welding helmets, work gloves, work boots, harness, etc.
• Drive maintenance van to and from work sites.

Work Conditions

• Exposure to airborne particles, such as dust and dander.
• Exposure to noise levels sometimes exceeding the 85-dBA action level set by OSHA; hearing protection provided.
• Exposure to chemicals such as detergents and disinfectants.
• Exposure to very hot temperatures, very cold temperatures, snow, sleet, ice, etc.
• Exposure to farm-related smells and foul odors.
