Job summary

ARM Group is seeking a Project Geologist I to join a team of engineers and scientists in providing observation, testing, data analysis, documentation, and cost estimates for environmental projects across a diverse client base.

Responsibilities include Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments, drafting technical reports, QA/QC, and fieldwork on soil, groundwater, surface water, and air media. Travel to job sites and occasional overnight stays are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology is required.
  • 4–6 years of related field experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ArcGIS is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to perform independent hands-on fieldwork and reporting.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites and occasional overnight stays.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Draft technical documents including Site Characterization Reports, routine Groundwater Monitoring Reports, Remedial Action Plans, Work Plans, and Sampling & Analysis Plans.
  • Use critical thinking to recognize conditions and problems of non-routine nature, develop solutions, and seek guidance as needed.
  • QA/QC review of work product and collaboration with team through QA/QC processes.
  • Sampling and monitoring of soil, groundwater, surface water, and air media.
  • Understand, maintain, and calibrate field instrumentation used for environmental data collection.
  • Document soil/rock cuttings and cores during drilling using industry standard methods.
  • Observe and document monitoring wells construction for compliance with technical specs.
  • Complete daily field reports and test summaries.
  • Proactively evaluate and manage large volumes of lab and field data.
  • Design and manage groundwater monitoring well networks in geologic settings.
  • Prepare cost estimates and proposal information as requested.
  • Collaborate with team to meet deadlines on projects.

Job description

ARM Group is seeking a Project Geologist I who will collaborate with a team of multi-disciplined engineers and scientists, project managers, and other staff to provide a wide range of observation, testing services, data analysis/organization, documentation, technical report preparation and preparation of cost estimates and proposal information for environmental projects and a diverse client base. Collaboration, effective communication with all stakeholders along with the ability to proactively recognize issues, develop solutions, and seek guidance will be key to success in this role.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and prepare subsequent reports.
  • Draft technical documents including Site Characterization Reports, routine Groundwater Monitoring Reports, Remedial Action Plans, Work Plans, and Sampling & Analysis Plans.
  • Use critical thinking skills to proactively recognize conditions and problems of non-routine nature, develop solutions, and seek guidance when needed.
  • Perform quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) review of work product and collaborate effectively with team members through ARM's peer review and QA/QC processes.
  • Sampling and monitoring of soil, groundwater, surface water, and air media.
  • Understand, maintain, and properly calibrate common field instrumentation used in the collection of environmental data.
  • Detailed description and logging of soil/rock cuttings and cores during drilling activities using industry standard methods.
  • Observe and document construction activities of monitoring wells, injection wells, and recovery wells to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Complete daily field reports and test summaries documenting the work being performed.
  • Proactively evaluate and manage large volumes of laboratory and field derived environmental data.
  • Design and manage groundwater monitoring well networks in a variety of geologic settings.
  • Prepare cost estimates and proposal information as requested.
  • Collaborate with other team members to meet deliverable deadlines on projects and obtain further knowledge and experience.
  • Effectively communicate with key stakeholders including the client, regulators, project managers, project engineers, and other members of the project team.
Requirements
Base Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology.
  • 4-6 years' experience in related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ArcGIS a plus.
  • Possess excellent analytical problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Team orientated with the ability to perform independent hands-on fieldwork and reporting.
  • A self-starter possessing strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Desire to work on multiple projects in parallel rather than a single large project for months.
  • Requires travel to job sites and, on occasion, out of the local area overnight stays.
  • Valid Driver's license in good standing required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Geology.
  • G.I.T or P.G. certification, or the opportunity to obtain such certifications while employed at ARM Group.
  • OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift 30-50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Desire to work outside in all climates and conditions.
  • Ability to walk and stand continuously throughout the day, often on uneven surfaces with frequent bending and stooping.
