Job summary

Congruex in Columbus, OH is seeking a Project Estimator, Underground Civil or Electrical, to manage pre-sales, prepare project cost estimates, and support contract negotiations for underground civil, electrical, and telecom infrastructure.

You will coordinate with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver competitive bids while maintaining project profitability, with 25-50% travel to site and office.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of OSP/engineering/construction project estimating experience.
• Experience in underground civil, electrical, or telecommunications construction preferred.
• Proficient with Excel, Word, scheduling software, and estimating tools.
• Strong analytical, budgeting, and forecasting abilities.
• Effective cross-functional communication across organizational levels.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage cost estimates for underground civil, electrical, and telecom projects.
• Review blueprints and specs to generate material takeoffs and bid proposals.
• Conduct site surveys and pre-bid meetings to gather project information.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams for pricing.
• Analyze costs, margins, and productivity to support forecasting.
• Prepare pre- and post-construction documentation and bid logs.

As the Project Estimator, Underground Civil or Electrical, you will ultimately be responsible for managing the pre-sales pipeline, preparing project cost estimates, and supporting contract negotiations for underground civil, electrical, and telecommunication infrastructure projects. You will coordinate with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver competitive bids and maintain project profitability. As the Project Estimator, your customers are utility providers, internal project teams, and external telecom clients, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company’s success through cost forecasting, bid accuracy, and customer relationship development.

Key Responsibilities (Including, But Not Limited To)

• Develop and manage cost estimates for underground civil, electrical, and telecommunications construction projects
• Review blueprints, specifications, and project documents to generate material takeoffs and bid proposals
• Conduct site surveys and attend pre-bid meetings to gather project information and assess job conditions
• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to gather labor, material, and equipment pricing
• Analyze project costs, margins, and productivity data to support forecasting and profitability
• Prepare pre-construction and post-construction documentation and maintain bid logs
• Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs

Required Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Valid Driver’s License
• First Aid Certification
• CPR Certification
• HCSS Training
• OSHA 10 Certification
• OSHA 30 Certification

Experience

• Minimum 3-5 years of OSP, engineering, or construction project estimating experience
• Experience in underground civil, electrical, or telecommunications construction strongly preferred

Skills And Abilities

• Thorough understanding of underground, aerial, and fiber construction methods
• Strong knowledge of construction and contract terminology
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, scheduling software, and estimating tools
• Strong analytical, budgeting, and forecasting skills
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across all organizational levels
• Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to interpret technical documentation

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with telecom fiber network estimating
• Experience using B2W or similar estimating software

Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel to job sites and attend pre-bid meetings as needed
• Ability to stand, walk, and perform site assessments for extended periods
• Ability to work in office and field environments
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
