Job summary

Mills Fence Co., LLC|Upright Fence is seeking a detail-oriented Fence Estimator in Westland, MI to prepare accurate cost estimates for residential and commercial fencing projects. You will review plans, assess sites, create material lists, and generate competitive bids while coordinating with clients and internal teams.

Ideal candidates have experience in construction estimating, strong math and communication skills, proficiency with estimating software and MS Office, and the ability to travel

Qualifications

• Experience in construction estimating; fencing or related field preferred.
• Ability to learn residential and commercial fencing materials and methods.
• Ability to read blueprints/site plans and construction docs.
• Proficiency with estimating software and Excel/Word.
• Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans and client requirements for residential and commercial fencing.

• Prepare detailed cost estimates including materials, labor, and subcontractors.

COMPENSATION: Salary Plus Commission

We are seeking detail-oriented and knowledgeable Fence Estimators to prepare accurate cost estimates for both residential and commercial fencing projects. This role involves evaluating project requirements, conducting site assessments, preparing bids, and working closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure competitive and profitable proposals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review project plans, specifications, and client requirements for residential and commercial fencing projects
• Conduct on-site evaluations to assess terrain, measurements, access points, and potential challenges
• Prepare detailed cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs
• Create materials lists
• Generate and submit professional bids and proposals within deadlines
• Communicate with clients to clarify scope, provide recommendations, and answer questions
• Collaborate with project managers, sales teams, and installation crews to ensure accurate project handoff
• Source and price materials such as wood, vinyl, chain link, aluminum, and specialty fencing systems
• Maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing
• Track and manage bid results, costs, and project data for future forecasting
• Ensure all estimates comply with local codes, zoning regulations, and company standards

QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience in construction estimating, preferably in fencing or related experience a plus
• Ability to learn or apply knowledge of residential and commercial fencing materials and installation methods
• Ability to learn or apply knowledge of reading blueprints, site plans, and construction documents (preferred)
• Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
• Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and customer service abilities
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites
