Job summary

William Hynes Energistics seeks a Project Estimator to support pricing, planning and commercial preparation of renewable energy projects. You will compile detailed costings, engage with the supply chain, issue enquiries, obtain quotations, and ensure estimates are accurate for internal approval.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and structured project estimates for solar farm and construction works.
  • Use internal estimating software to develop cost plans and pricing schedules.
  • Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
  • Issue and manage RFPs, RFIs, and pre-construction enquiries to suppliers/subcontractors.
  • Obtain and assess supplier quotations for best value and compliance.
  • Assist with onboarding of new subcontractors and supply chain partners.
  • Clarify scope, pricing, lead times, and inclusions with suppliers.
  • Build up rates for labour, plant, materials, and subcontract packages.
  • Identify missing information, scope gaps, and pricing assumptions.
  • Work with team to ensure estimates are reviewed and approved per procedures.
  • Support value engineering and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintain records of quotations, assumptions and pricing submissions.
  • Assist in preparing tender summaries and internal commercial reports.
  • Support handover from estimating to delivery teams.
  • Help maintain pricing databases and cost libraries.
  • Contribute to refining estimating systems and processes.
  • Engage with the wider team to grow a high-performing commercial function.

About The Role

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate and well-structured project estimates for solar farm and construction-related works.
  • Use the company's internal estimating and project calculation software to develop cost plans, pricing schedules, and project calculations.
  • Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and supporting project information.
  • Send out and manage RFPs, RFIs, and other pre-construction enquiries to suppliers, subcontractors, and specialist contractors.
  • Obtain, compare, and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure best value and compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist with issuing PQQs and supporting the onboarding and review of new subcontractors and supply chain partners.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to clarify scope, pricing, lead times, qualifications, and technical inclusions.
  • Build up rates and pricing for labour, plant, materials, subcontract packages, logistics, and associated construction costs.
  • Identify missing information, scope gaps, commercial risks, and pricing assumptions during the estimating process.
  • Work closely with the wider team to ensure estimates are submitted for review and approval in line with internal procedures.
  • Support value engineering exercises and help identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or delivery.
  • Maintain organised records of quotations, assumptions, clarifications, and pricing submissions.
  • Assist in preparing tender summaries, cost breakdowns, and internal commercial reports.
  • Support handover from estimating to delivery teams once projects are secured.
  • Help maintain and improve internal pricing databases, supplier lists, and cost libraries.
  • Contribute to the ongoing refinement and development of the company's estimating systems and processes.
  • Engage positively with the wider team and contribute to the growth of a high-performing commercial and pre-construction function.
Essential Requirements
  • Experience within an estimating, commercial, or construction-related role.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, project delivery, and how project costs are built up.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, scopes, and technical project information.
  • Experience obtaining prices from suppliers and subcontractors.

Desirable Requirements
  • Experience within solar farm construction, civil engineering, utilities, or wider infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience issuing and managing RFPs, RFIs, and PQQs.
  • Exposure to subcontractor procurement and supply chain engagement.
  • Experience using estimating tools, pricing software, or internal cost calculators.
  • Understanding of labour, plant, materials, preliminaries, and subcontract package pricing.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy projects and utility-scale construction.
  • A background in civils, electrical, mechanical, or infrastructure estimating.
