Job description

We’re partnered with a well-established structural steel and metal fabrication company in Denver that is growing their estimating team. We’re hiring at multiple levels, from someone early in their career to a senior/lead estimator who can help drive the function forward.

This team is very hands‑on and detail‑oriented. Success in this role comes down to your ability to read drawings, understand how things are built, and develop accurate estimates from the ground up.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Perform manual quantity takeoffs from construction drawings
• Review engineering drawings, specs, and scope to fully understand projects
• Prepare bids, proposals, and pricing packages
• Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors for pricing inputs
• Perform cost analysis and support bid strategy
• Work closely with internal teams to ensure estimates are accurate and complete

What We’re Looking For

Core Must-Haves (All Levels)

• Ability to read construction/engineering drawings and visualize how the project is built
• Strong math skills (basic geometry, takeoffs, and material calculations)
• Experience building estimates—not just using pre‑built cost databases
• High attention to detail (especially in documentation and numbers)
• Willingness to speak up, ask questions, and drive clarity when needed

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in:
• Construction Management
• Civil Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Or a related field

Equivalent experience will be considered

in place of a degree, especially for candidates with:

• Hands‑on structural steel or fabrication experience
• Strong estimating background with proven technical ability

Mid‑Level (Approx. 1.5–5 Years)

• Experience with takeoffs and estimating in construction or fabrication
• Comfortable working through drawings and producing accurate quotes
• Lead complex estimates for structural steel projects
• Help improve estimating processes and workflows
• Play a key role in implementing new estimating/ERP systems (Tekla PowerFab)
• Mentor junior team members and help guide the department
• Strong background in structural steel or metal fabrication estimating
• Experience leading estimates and owning bid strategy
• Exposure to or interest in Tekla PowerFab or similar systems
• Leadership mindset with desire to help build/improve a team
• Tight‑knit estimating team, highly collaborative
• Steady pipeline of structural and miscellaneous steel work
