Job description

Project Environmental Engineer, Environmental Scientist, or Geologist

Locations: Parsippany, NJ; Princeton, NJ.

Full‑time position with Haley & Aldrich. In this technical support role, you will work on diverse environmental projects, leading aspects of project work from scoping to final deliverables and serving as a key team member in both office and field assignments.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Adapt to office and field demands, splitting time between assignments.
  • Lead portions of technical project work from scoping through final deliverables under senior staff direction.
  • Apply academic and industry knowledge to execute project work.
  • Perform site reconnaissance, observe site conditions, and plan subsurface explorations.
  • Oversee and monitor subsurface exploration activities (e.g., borings, geoprobes, test pits) and collect soil, bedrock, and groundwater data.
  • Conduct soil and groundwater sampling following regulatory standards and company procedures.
  • Support vapor intrusion sampling and evaluation, coordinating field logistics, installing sampling ports, collecting samples, reviewing analytical data, and assisting with technical summaries.
  • Compile, analyze, and summarize field, instrumentation, geological, and/or environmental data using spreadsheets and digital tools.
  • Prepare detailed documentation of site activities and synthesize findings for environmental projects.
  • Support environmental due diligence projects, including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, desktop reviews, database reviews, reconnaissance, and historical research.
  • Prepare technical deliverables, including reports, proposals, cost estimates, and sections of reports per ASTM, NJDEP, and/or CERCLA.
  • Provide training and informal mentoring to junior staff on their projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and coordinate communications with clients, agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare permit applications.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate the company’s foundational safety behaviors.
Skills / Experience
Minimum Skills and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
  • Four or more years of related experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in technical reporting.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and apply strong critical‑thinking skills.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership.
  • Physical capability to lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable sites, work outdoors in varied weather, and sustain moderate activity for most field hours.
  • Travel to work locations that may require overnight stays.
  • Understanding of ASTM, NJDEP, and/or CERCLA standards and regulations.
  • OSHA 40‑Hour HAZWOPER training and refresher updates.
Preferred Skills
  • Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
  • Professional certification or intention to obtain certification.
  • Experience with Phase I/II ESAs and regulatory review.
  • Experience developing conceptual site models.
  • Experience with soil, groundwater, and air treatment technologies.
  • Design, construction, and operation and maintenance experience with environmental remediation projects.

The salary range for this position in Parsippany, NJ and Princeton, NJ is $65,000 – $80,000 annually. Actual compensation will depend on education, experience, certifications, skills, and market conditions.
